My '91 hatch is showing all the signs of IAC or air regulator trouble (romping, hunting for RPM, and of course RPMs drop to low when engaging the clutch).

My question: Has anyone removed only the lower half of the intake manifold to gain access to the IACV and air regulator. It looks doable, the gaskets between the two halves of the manifold and the IACV would have to be replaced of course, but I wouldn't have to disassemble the fuel rail, injectors, manifold to head joint, etc.

Here is a link to some pics of the parts provided by another member of the forums: 1991-1993-240sx-air-regulator-tutorial-t378625.html

Any input would be appreciated, thanks in advance guys.

i think i would try it this way as well and not deal with that coolant mess thing id have to look at it to be sure though...give it a try lol

it would seem it would be easier to do it the way your thinking since its just straight down to those bolts

iacv comes off easy. not sure about the air regulator. plug hoses etc to test if that is your problem. there wasnt a gasket on my iacv or egr but you can use gasket maker. see iacv article

Thanks vancouverbc, I found your pics, but somehow didn't read the article. Are most people out there removing these parts (aac thing, air regulator) and cleaning them, or just replacing them altogether. I would love to just clean them and save some money, but if I'm gonna' pull the manifold all apart replacing might be the way to go. I would love to hear what others have experienced when just cleaning these things. Thanks again.
