I recently read about cutting the yellow/green wire #8 from the right on the ECU harness to bypass the speedlimiter, and it worked. My question is does neone know of any drawbacks to this? The was I was told was this wires only purpose was to let the ECU know when to cut in and limit the speed. I havent had any problems yet, and it did work ( dont know how fast I was going but it sure was more then 110 "on a safe road") however sometimes the transmission feels diffrent . . . . .like its spinning too freely . . if that makes sense. Maybe its just me being paranoid?

i don't know any drawbacks and don't know or care if cutting the wire works, but you can just wire a switch in so you can just flip the switch when you know you need to go faster. that way when you're just driving around town the wire will still be connected, so no drawback.

if you get to the ecu and look at the harness its a green and yellow wire. start all the way from right and count 8 and go left 8 wires, mines was on the top row, but according to the chart from apexi depending on the ecu you have it could be on the top row or bottow row of the harness but it will always be green and yellow and 8 wires from the right, Just cut it put some electrical tape on the ends and put everything back and your set.

yes thank you nightshift for that confusing and totally non-understood explanation. If you try harder you might just get me to clip my mafs or o2 wire and totally screw up everything.

by the way much props on the suspension and brakes. stick with what your good at.

Thanx for the props on the suspension and brakes, Smart ***.:icesangel

haha its not a pos man c'mon. (yeah it is hehe) i know my body is fallen apart and my transmission is crap cause of the god damn act clutch... i love the way it chirps second and third, or it used to anyway. No love till the high rpms...sigh

You need to disconnect the two middle sensors on the transmission too (4th and 5th gears), otherwise it'll still cut you off at 5100 rpm. Without the sensors and the cut wire, I got up to 5900 rpm. That's about 140 mph with slightly bigger wheel tire combo.

yeah but according to one of the replys on the FAQ it does something to how the car responds since it cant read what RPMS your in . . . besides 140-150 isnt a bad speed to top out at i just needed to get over that hump at 110 cause trying to race someone on when your already going 80 just kinda doesnt work when your gonna top out at 110

so cutting the wire will shut the speed limit off huh...need to try that...115 top out is embarrassing...especially when i can do about 112 in 4rth gear alone...so i might just try that!!!

for all of the 97-98 240.the yellow wire with green stripe and 2 gray dots is the wirer to cut.it is just under the bolt that holds the harness to the ecu.the two sencer on the 5 speed is the one on top and in front of the shifter and the one on the pass side of the trans just below the first.(the next on is the back up lights) just did mine to day jack up the back of the car to test it .did it with ever thing hook up first.did the train first and than cut the wire.it was nice to see the speedo bottom out.the rev limet still work. TIME FOR THE NOSSSS

cut one wire on the ecu yellow/green/two gray dots just under the center bolt. and pull the plugs to the 4 and 5 gear switch on the trains. 4gear on top of trans in front of shifter.and 5 gear switch in front of the speedo gear drive about 10 inch to the front of the car.:ylsuper

Besides removing the speed limiter....

Removing that wire does another thing that you might enjoy....

Nissan's ECU is programed to go FULL RICH above 70 MPH [at least in the 91-94 SX's]. The ECU reads this off the speed sensor.

So if your local speed limit is 70, you are running REAL rich while crusing...

When you remove the Speed Limiter input from the ECU, your only go Full Rich at WOT...

So you should see an improvement in Gas Milage...

Have a nice day :ylsuper

Old school man.i think thay call it a air fuel meter. i have one you know.it not just for looks . i got into them in the late 80s.whin i put one on my hard body pickup.(also a nissan) it let me see just how much fuel the supercharger was useing.and i just had to have one in my 240.i like the groovey looking light. the inrichment on my 97 come in at 4500rpms. and drops out at 4000rpm. this is where it was when the car was stock and it has not change.even with my ram air it stay the same. saveing up for a venom cm tha will drop timeing and inrichment at wot to 1000rpm. i like the on and off buttom.it looks cool.im not making fun just got back from drive.:thinker

So I doubt Im gonna do this cuz Ill prob screw up and totally mess up my car but with the thing where you run full rich at around 70 and then cutting the wires and disconnecting those ones makes it not run at full rich.

So is there a reason its running full rich? I mean will it cause problems in the future?

I definitlly notice that on my 89 cuz I got like 280 miles(actually i think close to 300 around that much all I know is it was a lot more than usual) on a tank doing 70 the whole time i was on the highway I usually do between 75-80 and get around 220-250 before I fill up again. Does that make sense?

So yeah, is their a reason?

Hay my car at 70mph is running 3000rpm.it is running about 14.3 to 1 air to fuel. at 4500rpm it is running about 12.o to 1. now the car has all ways run this.now a non turbo car only needs 13.0 to 1 for max power.and a turbo need 12 to 1 to keep it from blowing up under boots. why my car run so hi i dont no. i am getting around 26mpg city and hiway.if i lead foot it i get about 22mpg.(90*) once the rpm drop below 4000rpm the car leans out. back to 14.3 to 1.

You know... I wasnt really thinkin about cutting the speed limiter, but if it'll help me with my gas mileage on the highway, GOOD BYE GREEN/YELLOW WIRE! (Probably a switch)... anybody know of any DISADVANTAGES?

on a KA24E, it did not work at all....

I don't know if it will kill your Cruise control...

My 240 doesn't have cruise, it is a plain jane model...no power windows or locks...

Try it...but know the proper way to splice wire but together if it doesn't work....And that doesn't mean electrical tape... ;)

ummmm wow . .. didnt know it was so hard to find.. . .

the ECU is in the passenger side kick panel. just open the passenger door and its the plastic panel to the right of where your passengers feet should be . . should be just about 3 screws holding it. . .
