Does anyone here have a Fortin based remote start system ? I'm thinking about buying the
Fortin - EVO-NIST1 ,
Fortin - FLASH-LINK and the
Axxess AX-RF2 2 Universal Remote to piece together a long range, two way remote start system. All for about $180 bucks on Amazon.

Consider getting an Advent remote starter, as they are known to work extremely well with Nissan/Infiniti vehicles. The basic starter only system works extremely well completely compatible with the factory security system.

I got the above mentioned pieces and got it installed today. It works great, was relatively simple to install. Soldering required though. If anybody needs help doing this, I can help out if needed.

did you have to give up a key? If not, how difficult was it to work around the vehicle security key system?

Not at all... The system decrypts your current key's rfid signature and keeps it in the unit installed in the car. You hook it up, run a key on/off procedure where it learns your key's signature, unplug the unit and take it to your computer where the info gets sent to fortin's "decryptor" servers. They decryp it and write it back to the unit. Hook it back in to the car and you're good to go. Very easy process.

Wow. that's cool. I was an installer in the late 90s, and have kicked around putting a remote starter on my M, but the technology has changed quite a bit since then. The anti-theft sytems were not nearly as advanced, as most just required the right kind of resistor soldered in place to defeat them for remote start purposes.

Yeah I've installed old school system before too (just did a recent one on my 99 Camaro.. I needed a fuse to bypass VATS). Lots of wires to hook up with that one. The M was infinitely easier, especially with that THarness it comes with. Programming via the USB port was a breeze too. I like it.

Just ordered the Fortin pieces. Not sure I need the extended range transmitter. Have you had any problems with the system? Any installation tips would be appreciated.

You don't need it, because the factory fob will work to start it. Press Lock 3 times. But, it sure is nice to be able to start it from your office or while still shopping inside a supermarket, etc. Kind of the reason I got it. LONG range remote start :)

Thanks for the fast response. The flash module won't be here till after the 4th so I have a little while. How many wires did you end up having to splice?

So if you get just these:

Fortin - EVO-NIST1, Fortin - FLASH-LINK

You can use the factory remote to start? Without losing a key/fob?

That's what it looks like to me. I will let you know. For under $120, I figured I would give it a try. NRGM45 just got the other kit to extend the range. I don't think I need all that. I just want to be able to start it from inside the house on those cold mornings.

Definitely keep us posted. Hell, make a HowTo on doing it lol. For that price, I want it. I've wanted a remote start for years but don't want to spend $500+.

Follow the structure I use for the HowTo's if you decide to do it:

I second that - hell, my wife's 2012 Dodge Durango Has a remote start and it's not even the top of the line Citadel model....come on Infiniti!!!! We should be able to have a smart phone app that lets us remote start, turn on and off the alarm, preprogram nav destinations, etc.

I will try to throw together a HowTo once I get everything.

If I remember correctly, I had to splice two. I didn't bother hooking up the lock and unlock outputs, which would have been a major PITA for me, since I have to run wires into the driver's side door. So I just use the kit to start/stop. I figured I don't NEED to unlock or lock my doors from a big distance. Hehe

I even went a step further and integrated the extra remote start keyfob with my home automation system (Samsung Smartthings). I hooked it to the Amazon Echo, so I can just say "Alexa, turn on my infiniti" in the morning and it starts my car by activating a Zwave relay, that in turns shorts the start button on the keyfob to start (or stop) the car. Heheh

You definitely get extra cool points for that. My HowTo will not include Alexa integration. I apologize in advance for my shortcomings.

That's legit NRG. I can't wait till everything is IOT. I'm all bout dat lyfe.

I'll likely do the same if this turns out to be easy in terms of the unlock/lock. I'll just approach the car like I always do. Can you still use the stock fob from say 10ft away? The stock fob functions 100% the same just if you click a button a certain amount of times the car starts or stops?

NRG, couple of questions before I tackle this. Do you remember where you pulled power from? Also, I just wanted to clarify that you hooked up nothing to the lock/unlock wires of your car. I just want to make sure this thing is reading the 3x lock signal from somewhere other than the lock wire in the door.

It won't let me edit my previous post. Looking at the wiring instructions I can't tell if the T-harness pulls power from the brake pedal connection or if you need to run separate power and ground.

I got it installed today, and it works great. Stand-alone remote start with stock remote for $120! I will get to the HowTo ASAP. It was not bad at all. Spliced into the power and three additional wires. I just used quick splice connectors on the 3 wires so it went quick.

TLoc,

I have the Fortin remote start kit and would greatly appreciate a "how to install" on my 2013 M37x.

I'd like to think I'm fairly knowledgeable when it comes to tech stuff, but I don't have the slightest idea how you made the Alexa integration work. Can you share the details, or point me in a direction to find out more about it? I have a fire stick with Alexa, but we have not integrated it with anything.
