I have a question to all the people that have bought an sr20det or any other JDM motor. I dont want to sound like a noob but I want to ask if anyone may know of any actual good places that carrie reliable motors. I live in Chicago and I did find 2 local places that carry JDM motors but they do not have any sr20s in stock any more, i have also done my research and found a few web sites that may seem pretty honest but I just dont want to buy a motor and put it in and find out that it doesn't start and have to ship it back or not get a motor at all, so to all the people that have bought any jdm motors and know of places that are honest and sell reliable motors either here in the US or Canada, please let me know, Im in a kind of desperate situation since i had a connecting rod shoot out from the bottom of my ka24e after some drifting which i knew something like that would happen to my engine but I just didn't expect it to happen that soon, hehe

SR's, in general, and if installed correctly, tend to be very reliable, but they are used motors. Check with our sponsors who sell motors. They provide compression results, video, etc. upon request.

Do it right the first time and don't cheap out. I bought my engine and I ended up putting much more money into it than I thought. I would've been better off buying from Heavy Throttle or someone really good in the first place with a good warranty.

Compression numbers mean nothing. Get a leakdown down and save yourself a headache.

Also, buying engines from a foreign country with unknown origins is a crap-shoot. You could get an engine that blows up within a day, or never blows up. Make sure you get compression #'s, leakdown test, video of it running, etc.

As for engine importers, I **strongly** recommend JHot. Though they didn't have any in stock when I was looking, they report actual mileage, and include everything that needs to be bought. Great prices too. I've dealt with almost every other Nico vendor and I wasn't impressed at all.

listen to thoughtful.

I might disagree w/ mileage part. Definitely don't buy from a company outside of the U.S.

Get your motor from Jeff at Heavythrottle.com, no worries.

Ive got nearly 4 years, and over 70,000 miles and still ticking on mine.

Just to add to what he said, even though you don't buy your engine from HT, Jeff will still help you as if you bought an engine from him.

So far, he's been super helpful in trouble-shooting problems.

Id like to clarify, Ive put 70,000 miles on this motor myself, I have no clue how many were on it when it showed up at my door.
