Lol on the thermal sock. I really doubt for $8 it would have any heat resistant properties. Any material that can absorb heat will eventually become hot itself. The best heat dissipating material is alloy with cooling fins. If a cover like that existed I might try it. The thing is this still wouldn't prove much difference because if the car is moving the air will remain the same temp or close to the ambient temp. It's when you're stuck in traffic for long periods of time that heat soak plays a role, but once you get moving it doesn't take long for the air to come back down. What you were measuring was the temp of the parts. What you should be measuring is the IAT while moving at the same speed and same ambient temp plus a wideband sensor to see the mixture after combustion. Do you have an OBD2 monitoring kit? I would buy one. It's about $130 with recording software. Then perform these tests again.
