So i havea SR Redtop in my 89 240sx. I was thinking of the next time i throw a rod or something to switch to a S14's Sr20 Notchtop. What would all i need to buy i know i would need well the Long Block itself and a ECU for sure. may sound retarded and jsut double checking cause i know its basically the same. Just wanna make i dont need to get new wires and that all my old upgrade will bolt back on

You will need the S14 wiring harness.

why would you switch to a s14 sr if you were to wreck your bottem end? why not just spend the same amount of money maybe less and rebuild the bottem end of the redtop with aftermarket parts. that makes a lot more sense to me

last time i threw a rod it was pretty nasty...... ok ehre its goes the rod slammed through the wall destroy a motor mount. and the timing change snapped throwing metall everywhere (in the oil pan and head). then from the piston and shreds of metal spiked into the oil pan you can see shards in the pan when you removed it. then parts of the piston exploded and it ****ed up my valves then some of the valves were open at the time and went shot up in the ports. and fro mthe chain it shot metal all over into the top of my head ****ign up my springs and etc. so basically i had to get a brand new long block with block, internals, head, with valves, and oil pan. so yeah. i had to get a new long block and a new mount. so might as well have VTC :-D

...I knew when he said he threw a rod that something bad happpened like that i just wanted to see what he would say but ya i was going to say the same thing..but ya man i guess if you want a s14 sr if this ever happens again then you would have to also consider that ive heard the temp sensor for a s14 engine in a s13 chassis will throw the temp off..and the s14 wiring into the s13 body will be a bit tricky..little things like that

also check your oil pan occasionally to make sure it doesn't have any dents. i have also heard of modifying the pickup so that it does not oil starve as easily but without having the oil pickup in front of me i couldn't tell you what that entails.
