Well, I'm been getting really bored with my car. It's been the same look for almost 3 years now. So I decided that it's time to change the theme. First things first. Changing up the wheels. Picked up a set of these D-Powered Wheels from one of the site members for a pretty good price. They were heavily curb rashed and a lot of oxidation on them, so I have to refinish them. So far, I went and got most of the materials I need.

Here are the wheels conditions at first

heavy oxidation and curbage

After some sanding and grinding over the past to days, got it pretty clean but heavily scuffed up

And check out the weight

Went today to get the Primer, Clear coat, and a custom paint for the wheels. Went to Kearny Mesa Paint on Clairemont mesa blvd (thanks to Kid_da for the advise) and got my medium Aluminum Mettalic Cold custom mixture.

Hopefully later this week I will have them sand blasted, and i can start painting them. I hope to have tires by next week so i can install them and start driving. Then it's on to the next step in my new look on the car's paint scheme

Went to sand blast the wheels. After doing so, i noticed that there was a layer of clear, a layer of paint, and a layer of black primer before you get to the metal. I only blasted down to the primer or to remove the clear so I can manually sand some of the wheel to get it to let the new primer stick. Pics below

Blasted vs unblasted

self portrait....Kinda

Got the wheels home,First i wiped down all the wheels with Acetone to remove any chemical debris that may still be on them so it has a clean surface, and time to put the first layer of grey primer on the wheels. I'm doing Grey as the first coat of primer, and then Black primer on top of the grey. I think the gold will look better with black as the base below it

I picked up my 2 cans of black primer, and a can of gloss black paint (for the rear of the wheel) today on my lunch. I should have at least one wheel completely done by tomorrow. depending how long it takes the paint to dry

Every time I see your sig, Importroller, I have to do a double-take for some reason, because I think I'm seeing another car entirely. That angle confuses my brain momentarily:

that is just wrong. :gapteeth: Never will i drive another cheap GM crap.

But i just absolutely despise the stock tails on the sedans, so I had to overlay them. I think it looks more like a TC from the back to be honest.

Changing sig now

Haha, I get the same thing with the new sig. I think it's the window vents. I have a weird association with them and GM.

Got the Black Primer on, and honestly, i'm tempted to keep it black. Looks great as a flat black color.

But, i want my gold

Thanks, now that I know how to do this properly, I'm gonna start looking for wheels in bad shape for the G35 and redo those.

I'm redoing the top of the trunk, hood, and roof in matte black vinyl. I'm redoing all my overlays on the lights so they are in good shape again, roof spoiler, front lip, I may do a custom headlight project (need spare set of lights first). My exhaust system is getting changed (custom fab by me when i get around to it), planning do run coilovers eventually (not high priority right now), working on getting a ECU tune after i finish the basic bolt ons, and in about a year, the plan is to be pushing a t60 turbo.

Thing is, for the past few years, i was undecided if i was going to keep this car, and just trade it in for something else. Then I found out Nissan is no longer going to offer a manual in the sedan. So that officially made my car RARE! So i decided to refi on the loan, and keep the car. Now that I'm keeping it, i figured its time to really do what I wanted to do all this time. The other thing I forgot to mention, is I'm gonna change the interior to leather. It's gonna get black carpet, black leather seats with blue stitching. (this will be the next step after the vinyl since it will be only $1k for the job) Then I'm also gonna change every factory speaker and reaplace them with much better aftermarket ones.

Sorry i don't have better daytime pics yet, but with daylight savings, I ran out of light really quick. I should have better pics tomorrow before the rain comes.

What were you grinding down on the inside of the wheel? Also, can you list the grits for your coarse and finish work?

I guess i had left that out of the original posts. Sorry about that.

1: use coarse wire brush to get off the major surface elements on the back of the wheel and on the lip. On the back of the wheel I was getting off all the built up grime and dirt that was on it. Much easier than soap and water, and since I was painting it anyways, got it down to the bare metal
2:Then i used the Fine wire brush and tried to clean it up a bit.
3: Use 100 grit or higher sand paper to get rid of the curb rashes so it's not too harsh on the aluminum.
4: after all your grinding and sanding, wipe down the wheel with acetone or any type of paint stripper to remove as much of the residue off the wheel as possible.
5: once it's dried, start applying your primer, paint, then clear
