Call me a newb and an innocent but I fell in love with a 1994 Q45 with 100,000 miles this weekend and ... well ... there it is sitting in the driveway. Now, I gotta get down to business.

I'm looking for a list of recommended maintenance steps on purchase of a Q45. What do I need to change, refresh, replace, add, update, etc. to prolong the life of this wonder on wheels?

I've cobbled together some bits and pieces but perhaps you kind folks can flesh out this list a bit more? I've buried some search terms into the opening paragraphs to help make this "find-able" for others. Also, here's a link to another post that answered some of my questions, zer...86074.

Once I get this list together, I'll give it to my mechanic. I'm not looking to 'pimp' this ride but the car has been regularly and well maintained and I want to enjoy it for many years to come.

1. Replace the oil and filter. Recommended weight for Vancouver / Seattle?2. Replace fluids in transmission, power steering, differential3. Flush radiator coolant4. Install transmission cooler5. What octane level do you folks recommend for the fuel?6. Install transmission cooler. Here's a link to a thread zerothread?id=172407 but I don't know if this the standard approach or model used.7. If it were a 1990-1993, chain guides would need to be replaced. Link include here zerothread?id=25201.

What else am I missing? Many thanks!

You are definitely on the right track.

Heres another thread

zerothread?id=202381http://forums.nicoc ... ?id=144294

Id probably go ahead and replace the brake fluid too. I guess since you're talking about PRELIMINARY stuff we'll skip the speech on suspension, brakes, plenum hoses and so on.

Use 91-93 octane fuel.

What else am I missing?
1.) Get M1 filter from Joe (new thimble ones are not up to old OEM ones) and something like M1 10W-30 or 5W-30 in winter, unless you go East. 0W-40 is rarer, but good also.

2.) Yep. Synthetics will work best.

3.) Might want to convert to an OAT coolant. Distilled water only as a dilutant.

4.) Many ways to do it. Look at pictures under my signature.

5.) Minimum of 91 US RON.

6.) Department of Redundancy Department

7.) But you don't. Good for all 1993 and earlier owners.

Seem to miss the fuel system including the filter and air filter. BG44K, EGR IAC valves, TB and full plenum cleaning. Spark plugs? Suspension rubber? Rear a bar? Jeff williams FSTB?

Here's where the Infiniti Dealer performed service history you undoubtedly obtained before you purchased the car will guide you.

@Elwesso: Okay, but would appreciate links or references to this material for fugure reference.

@Maxnix: I requested dealer history but all they could tell me was that it had made 24 visits between 1994-2001. The details of the history had been purged from the system! Part of the problem may be that the primary dealer was consolidated into another dealer. Whatever - I can't get details.

South of the 49th, all data is archived at Nissan North America. You might press them a little harder. Helps to socially engineer a service writer.

Register yourself as the new owner with Infiniti. They should be able to dig up the archive and at least read it to you.

I've modified the Ultimate Q45 Maintenance Schedule, originally posted by AlabamaDan, to include various and sundry comments by other members. It's available at my website (http://www3.telus.net/murrdaka/) for anyone interested - particularly less experienced users. As I run across bits and pieces, I'll keep updating it.

Nice car with the BBS wheels. I think you will be glad you bought the 1994 for the safety and convenience comforts.

Now you need to post up the interior.

Good thing BC still allows radar detectors.

i presume you have the FSM on 1994 q:

http://www.phatg20.net/modules...id=62

i think you have the best lists as to what to do first. I should have done that before but i started backwards....plenum job- spark plugs-etc...etc....so far i've done fuel filter/pump; plenum job(still on the process) i would suggest also a usb-consult ( wes arranged a GB made by Jamie--slipnfall maybe they could still hooked you up)

you're on the best forum for G50......so you're in good hands...

I received a copy of the previous owner's service records. Is this as detailed as they get or is there more? I was not able to get a breakdown of the codes used to describe "JOB"

That's it.

Sounds like you need a shield and diagnose the ATF leak. Look on the electrical line on the driver's side when it is on the lift. If you can trace it up as far as you can see, chances are it is the turbine sensor. Which means a transmission drop and replace the rear main engine seal while you are at it.

Do you think I could get more descriptive details than what I already have?

I bought a new shield. It cost me something like $270 Canadian. I replaced the ATF fluid, filter and gasket. Looks like the small leak was coming from the revolution sensor. I wasn't able to get one, no stock in Canada. It's on my to-do list.
