I want to know the best way to lower the car a bit, say 1" - 1.5" With the best overall ride possible. Also what to look out for when ordering for convertible. What is the difference on a s13 coupe vs convertible suspension. I see ads stating shocks/springs for s13 but not for Vert...Also if anyone is selling a set up that would work in great condition feel free to let me know. Thx

There's no difference between the coupe and vert's dampers. I've been running KYB AGX dampers with Tein S-Tech springs for over 4 years now with no problems.

Just buy good quality name brand springs and dampers and you should be good.

That's the best bang for the buck drop right there. You can find them(brand new) on eBay cheap.

SEARCH!!!!

Even if you didn't search, you could have answered AT LEAST one question just by looking @ the sticky on top of the vert forum...
The suspension parts I want to buy say "excluding convertible", can I still use them?Yes you can! The convertible is slightly heavier than the coupe and fastback so it will ride slightly lower on the same suspension parts. (But that's not a bad thing!)zerothread/200644
I saw even cheaper is KYB Gr-2's, any reason not to use these over the AGX? I don't plan on adjusting anything much. But do want a decent ride.

Seriously now... search. Or read the description...

Basically - GR2's = stock replacement, AGX = adjustable dampening, "next level up"

Read through the FAQ's, visit the suspension forums, search on google if you have to. Even just reading company descriptions on the sites/ebay that sell gr2's & agx, they tell you right in the description what the difference is...

How are Vogtland (952112) springs? Aslo- If doing the springs, even with the soem like GR2's does it make more sense to do both, or just do springs and leave the original dampers on if fine? They may have 90k on them, but seem perfect.

Vogtland, never heard of them before. I think you better stick with well known and tested applications. GR-2 are good OEM replacement and works well with S-Tech also. Yes, you can just swap the springs.

Never heard of those springs.

If you are going for GR-2s I'd just go ahead and leave the stock shocks. Also some other options for shocks, I have the Tokico Blue HP shocks, cheaper than AGX, no adjustments, but better than stock. Seem fine on my Tanabe springs.

I think this is about right.

Shocks:OEM =< GR-2 < Tokico < AGX < Basic Coilovers < Coilovers w/camber plates

Springs:OEM < S-TECH, Tanabe GF210, Eibach < RSR < Coilovers

I would agree with your rankings.

wait ....but if you leave your stock shocks when you add lowering springs, won't that just blow out your shocks within weeks???

it might take more than a couple weeks.. but yes, the stock shocks are not build to work with aftermarket lowering springs. They will give out in short order.

Eibach Sportline will do that cuz it lowers too much. Other springs only drop like an inch, so stock shocks can take it. I think AGX voids warranty if Sportline was installed when blew up. Then again, if you live where there are too many pot holes, that's a different story.

Even though the coupe and verts are the same, I would imagine that the verts will drop even more due to their extra weight. Not excessively but one that's noticeable.

Slothead, Enjuku Racing offers a KYB shock/Tein spring package for $399. That's definitely a bang for the buck and I would look into it if I were you. It should offer just what you're looking for. I can't provide a link as it'll take you to their homepage so check them out for yourself.

GR-2's are good shocks they are probably 15 percent stiffer. The only thing is they are not much better than stock for handling lowered cars from what i've read. The agx's are for a more extreme drop setup. I know your not looking for much of a drop but if they say 1-1.5inch drop i'd say you'll get agood 2 inches. Also factor in that may be a initial drop. Who knows if they factor in settling. My springs probably settled another full inch over a month or 2.I personaly run KTS coilovers. I have no complaints. On my 2000 avenger i run kyb agx's and intrax springs (been on the vehicle 2 years and still riding great). I'd say agx's and some good springs would do you good for what your lookin for. Just remember dont cheap out on your suspension. If you do and it busts on you, you'll just spend that much more.

I would strongly recommend against using GR-2s with any kind of lowering spring. The stock 240SX suspension has limited travel, and by reducing that with lowering springs, you will be hitting the bump stops and eventually blow out the strut. You need a stronger strut like AGX to compensate.

I have the Nismo S-Tune strut/spring/mount combo. It lowered my vert 1.5" and provides a decent ride for the street. I wouldn't want anything stiffer, as I practically get thrown out of the car when hitting a large bump at 60mph.
