Nope, I heard if you put an SR20 sticker on a CA18 motor you'll break a rocker arm...

its in the crossover parts sticky at the top of the page ;)

but just for you its: BA010-06E26 :) I realize this is a different # than the one listed before, but if your nissan dealership seaches using the old part # it will find this one. its the newer design one I think...

DAMN! today was a productive day:D

With ALOT of help from my friend Timmy (elballoonrat, but he doesn't post here much... he's a mk1 mr2 guy:pface) we managed to complete the bottom end of my motor!

Honed the pistons, cleaned up the headgasket surface, rod bearings, piston rings, rear main seal, oil pan, water pump, etc... the bottome end is DONE! ready to roll:)

Tuesday at work I'll finish up the head with TMS's grease method of getting the keepers to stay on the retainers and I'll be mating the head and bottom end together next weekend in time for swappage monday morning (SPRING BREAK!!!)

(pictures here soon... timmy has to go home and upload the pics and email them to me)

BA010-06E26 is the alternate part# for 21010-06E26 which in turn is alternate # for 21010-06E25.. however these alternates were never listed as alternates for the CA18DET S13 motor, only for the CA18DE KN13 (Pulsar NX)/etc motor, if you have a clutch fan still might want to check for the c-clip etc that some people have indicated missing (at least on 'aftermarket' / rebuilt pumps), just to be sure... originally the S13 RWD CA18DET and KN13/etc FWD CA18DE had same part #'s but after that they had diff alt#'s, may be either cheaper parts for the FWD's as no need to handle a clutch on them, or just because of different local suppliers (often nissan specifies alt #'s for replacement use so dealers can use cheaper to obtain locally-made parts rather than shipping in parts from japan).

there is a difference... i'll take a picture of it, because its kinda hard to explain:) but since I'm not using a clutch fan I'm not too worried about it.

here's the pictures of the FWD (new) vs. the RWD (old) water pumps...

NEW:

OLD:

the old one has a collar that fits the pulley, while the new one is too small to fill the hole in the pulley... does it make sense?

perhaps the lack of collar allows the RWD pulley to be slightly off-center and/or vibrate in ways destructive to the pump?

can anyone compare a FWD and RWD pulley?

I concur with your assesment of the situation. I will be picking up a FWD pulley tomorrow from the junkyard and will report back tomorrow :tank: Over and out.

SR broke a rocker arm, CA broke a piston......

I'll take a broken rocker arm any day over that.

Someday you'll take my advise and do a 'proper' CA buildup just like Ray did.....

Jack the oil cap up about 3 inches, and stick an SR under it, tighten till it clicks 3 times, and your set.

Seriously though, I can't wait to see how a higher compression CA runs. Let me know if you need some help.

sean, could you possibly put togther a ca rebuild set and sell them for a slight mark up of what you pay? im sure people will order them i know i would. at this point in time im really wanting to build this car myself, but i just dont have the time to scout the lil stuff like gaskets and other small parts.

thusday my motor comes out of the car for disassembly (its finnally warming up enough). hopefully monday morning it will head to the machine shop for some thearapy.

let me know if you could sell a rebuild package of some sort...

.and why does my CA have a factory oil cooler and noone else doeS?

Jon, I'll ask my managers at work about possibly getting the stuff at the "business rate" which is what other car shops who come into Nissan would be charged (because I highly doubt I could buy 10 sets of gaskets at cost without raising some suspicion...)

And I just got a job lined up with an engineering firm, so I'm not sure how much longer I'll be working for Nissan (they're becoming real a$$holes about me working on my car even though they don't pay me crap  ) but I'll ask on the gasket thing for ya!

about the oil cooler I HAVE NO IDEA! becuase this was an auto transmission motor too  this is sooo damn wierd

Hrm didn't realize that not all RWD CA's had oil coolers. My FAST parts catalog for japan has a borrupt disc so I can't see any S13 parts (among other things) but the europe S13 DOES have an oil cooler.

I'd have to check again but IIRC you can scavange the oil cooler (its oil to water (coolant) cooler, not oil to air) from an automatic '88 Stanza Wagon here in the US. I had looked into this previously as I wanted to install an OE oil cooler on my KA before it completely toasted the rings and/or valve seals, and put together a hackjob list of parts that would probably have worked (sine all the motors use the same oil filter, therefore same oil filter attatchment hopefully, etc etc)

I still have the part #'s written down but don't recall for sure which year models. I tried pricing the parts new from Courtesy Nissan and it was like $400+ and that was with the 240SX CCA discount.. once I doublecheck which parts from what models I'll post up a thread later in case anyone with either A: money or B: a junkyard with the right parts (and money - just not as much of it) can give it a try.

float fyi here is the thread I just posted w/ the main part #'s. if you want more detailed #'s for parts let me know and I can post them too, but it seemed already eyes-glazing-over enough, I really need to get a working copy of the Japanese FAST CDs so I can check vs the JDM stuffs....

you rock ray:ylsuper are you going to stop by and help sometime this weekend/next week sometime? that would be cool:) I'm pretty sure Paul's gonna stop by, and I'll see what estevan's up to. I have my friend Timmy helping me with most of it, but extra hands are always nice for these sorts of things!

I'll be calling you later in the week. I've got 2 tests coming up before the weekend, so they're getting my main focus right now. No more motor work till Friday afternoon;)
