So I got the KA out today... gonna spend tomorrow cleaning the engine bay because I'm still waiting on the turbo inlet elbow  he says he'll overnight it tomorrow so I should have it tuesday sometime, which is ok because I'm still waiting on belts from Nissan till Tuesday too :(

I migh try to do some more intercooler piping if I can get a hold of my friend with the welder. Pictures later when I have a chance to upload them from the camera...

The CA is otherwise fully assembled and ready to go! I'm so damn tired its bed time at 10:00 :pface

Later guys,Sean

GAHHH!!! stupid fooking converter bushing... the new motor used to be an automatic so it has this thich bushing sticking out the back where the pilot bushing goes on a manual transmission!

we were hammering on the damn thing for about 5 hours last night... I'm running to work to find a tool to try and remove it now, but if that fails, Dee thinks we can just cut it flush with a hacksaw and that will work... seems like a last resort option though:( Oh well, thats all that stands in my way!

later,Sean

Sean,

Just cut it and save yourself the drama. FWD and RWD clutch systems use the same clutch aligning tool and this will be your permanent pilot bearing. If I can cut it with the engine in the car, you can cut it even faster with the engine out of the car.

i have read about this with SR's on fresh alloy, there is a tool to remove it that you can rent, i think you tap three small holes into it and attach the tool and pull it off.. i find cutting sounds scary

All you have to do is tap some threads into it then use a sliding hammer to pull it out then just lightly hammer in the manual pilot bushing

OR, do what I did...VERY carefully use a dremel with a carbide cutting bit to cut almost all the way through it, but not into the crank. Then, just clamp down with some vice grips on the sides and pull it on out :) It worked well for me! Took about 10 minutes with the rotary tool. Good luck! Oh, and if its like the KA, you'll NEVER get the pilot bushing past the at bushing.

I got it out... I'll post pictures of how later. Basically we drilled to holes in it, and collapsed the bushing in on itself allowing us to remove the 2 halves. it sucked, took almost a day to figure it out:(

oh well, we got the motor in, but still not running yet. having some difficulties figuring the injector harnesses and which plugs go where... hopefully we'll get it tomorrow, but we're all exhausted and calling it a night:)

Sean, I didn't realize that was what you were talking about last night. If you've got a pic of ur harness I can tell you which goes where. I don't remember the color codes off the top of my head, and mine is so nasty that they're all black now.

I had the same exact problem with the pilot converter. It took all of about 30 secs to get it out with a slide hammer. You just slide it in, crank a little bolt that spreads out some little lips behind the bushing, and tap it out with the attached sliding weight. Sounds almost dirty...but you'll see what I mean if you ever use one. Pep-Boys rents them.

i removed the pistons all together so it was easy to clean them... I just used the parts cleaner at work.
