What are your plans for the car, any sort of racing? The use of the car should be highly considered when building an engine. Rebuild kits are reasonably easy to source on the net, all you have to do is a little searching, as for just getting another used KA, you may just be setting yourself up to go through this again. The last option is a swap, there are pros and cons to both motors, and once again, you need to realize the cars use when deciding. No one can make the decision for you, search, read, learn, then make an informed decision.

hope this helps some

good luck

I am wanting to build the car for a a cross country drive and able to handle curvy roads. I just want a resonable amount of power so that is why i was thinking of a KA rebuild the engine has been good to me but through years of neglect i am unsure of how long it will last. The transmission is starting to have problems as well. The neglect was not my doing but two of my family members my stepdad and my wife had the car while I was stationed in japan and now i'm just trying to reverse and breathe life back into my car.

Well the thing is, you can swap in a perfectly running KA with near or under 100k miles for 350 bucks, if you do the labor yourself. Thats about the going rate of Ka's in good shape now. So it really is up to you, you'd spend more on the engine rebuild than you would a swap, and either way you have to pull the engine.

Though if you rebuild the engine properly you wont have any problems out of the bottom end for a good long time.

How many miles on your engine? Have you done a compression check, why do you want to rebuild it?

It sounds like you have a transmission issue, time for a manual swap or something?

Oh, and there are a crap load of rebuild kits for the KA, just look at our sponser directory. AMS is the leader IMO...

I have around $1000 saved right now and will soon have a little shy of $2000. I just want to make a sound decison and was looking for others opinions on the matter. Right now my car has 148,896 miles. No compression check but the engine was not taken care of and i don't want to risk fixing the transmission and the the engine going south on me. I would just rather take care of both at once. That is why i was considering the SR swap. It was fun to drive when it was new but years of neglect and now i am fighting a uphill battle and love the car so i feel its worth fixing. I am also going to need to do some body work as my wife hit a dear with it. I have never caused any dakmage to my car it others who have gotten ahold of it and just not treated her right.
