Rear View Camera Broken off (Updated Picture)

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi, guys I need your help....

today i noticed that my rear view camera on the screen went black, i went to the back of my car to see if it was covered and when i took a look i saw that the rear view camera (by the trunk latch/license plate) was missing and the camera (which I believe used to be there) is now missing???? :frown: :frown: :frown:

Has this happened to anyone? Could it be from closing the trunk door hard? I have not been in a accident and noone has hit me but the camera is broken off?? But i noticed that when i close the trunk softly it isnt tight so i have to kinda give it a good push,....could that have caused it damage?

would this be covered under warranty?

Mmmm... only your Dealer will tell you if it is.

I'm willing to bet that it would have been easier to plead your case, if you still had the Camera... but since it's gone ? I don't know.

I recall on this Forum, somebody had to replace the Front Camera and it priced out at the Dealer for $860.00

Here's the Thread >>> front-camera-ouch-t513864.html?hilit=front%20camera

If you have to buy one, this one is reasonably priced >>> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Navigati ... 43a5e0a865

Hey there welcome to the group. Interesting first post.....

I don't think that would most likely be covered under warranty (although those images are far too small to see what actually happened). You need to check your upload size.

It does not sound like the camera is missing (???) as a result of a manufacturing defect.

Good Luck. I'm subscribed.

I think it's a White or Silver EX35 and the Picture is looking up at the underside of the Hatch Handle.

Having never seen one up close, there appears to be 2 Tabs with Holes in them for Screws. Yes, No ?

Here is the eBay Picture made bigger.

Re-Uploaded into Bigger Pics.

Any clues what have happened? Possibly got hit by a big rock? Or from slamming shut the trunk door? I'm very sad and depressed now :(

Strange issue. I do not see anyway it could fall off by slamming the trunk door. It looks like it is mounted behind the bezel and it is not that heavy. it is hard to tell from the pictures but it appears the bezel around the cam is missing a large chunk of plastic. With the screw broken, it may be that someone did pry it off with a screwdriver or it was hit by an object with great aim. Good luck with the dealer. I will be curious to see what they say.

Sorry about the image size I broke the internet.

Images only add to the confusion.

That was definitely force of a collision or vandalism.

There is a large plastic bracket that mounts the camera securely to the substructure of the hatch.

Where are the missing pieces?

if it is going to cost more than $1000 then I will not fix it, I will just leave it becuz I am trading in my car anyways, so i will let the dealer deal with the issue, in May it will be 36 months since i have had the car

great car, no problems....just too small for my needs now, but will miss it dearly

Thanks EXceptional :)

Oh my gosh I say if warranty doesn't cover, I'm probably looking at $1200 right? :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown:
My car is 2008 Fully Loaded, White in Color. If I choose not to fix on my own, when I trade in my car, the dealer will handle it but will take off $$$ of trade in right?

Looks like someone stole it? Looking at the right side on the plastic trim next to the 'silver dome', there seems to be someone used a screw driver of some sort to crack open the camera case to gain access.

Agree with EXceptional. The dealer will fully examine the vehicle on a trade-in and will try to deduct the full Infiniti cost to replace the camera from the trade-in KBB value (or at least that what they Tried to do with my 2003 G35). I would look for a replacement part from eBay and fix it myself. I think you would be $$ ahead.

Any chance insurance would cover that? Of course you need to weigh the deductible cost against the cost of an eBay replacement.

This isn't a camera.
That is a sonar control unit.
It says so on the case.
I cannot find the application for that PN on google of InfinitiPartsUsAs site.

This is what the camera kind of looks like.

Definitely someone stole it. Look at those screw driver marks (Indentions) on the right side edges (closer to round silver metal).
Look at how clean the black plastic trim around the hole. ( 1" or more outside the edges). There is no way a rock precisely hit that thingy...
This will only be covered by comprehensive insurance if you have one.

The culprit could also be a squirrel under the influence. Maybe he thought it was a nut ?

I feel your pain bro... :tisk:

Thanks for all the support and input guys, it's very much apreciated....

Just got back from the dealer, and you guys are correct, it was most definatley stolen. the culprit knew exactly what he wanted and got it. i just feel violated and disgusted, this car was babied and garage kept, but during renovations i had to park it outside and it has come to that :(

now to fix this is just an estimate canadian dollars:

camera $ 780
cover $ 73
finisher $ 210

takes about 2-3 hours for labour @ $175 per hour....

i don't know what to do now.......... so sad and upset now.....

Your insurance should cover this. For me, this type of claim does not raise one's rate either.

:yesnod Definitely time to call your insurance company. I have no idea how insurance works in Canada...but most policies have consideration for vandalism like this or stolen factory wheels.

Why steal an OE camera????

From what I understand, ICBC also calculates your rate by where you live, house or condo, home garage or apartment parking, has security or not...

So just tell them most of the time you park in the house garage but this one happened during your house renovation and it's an occasional case, that shouldn't affect your rate.

my insurance isnt from bc so i dont deal with icbc?????

i'm terrified of parking my car outside my street now, what if they come back for more :frown:

i'm really leaning towards just trading in my car and let the dealership deal with it and take what ever it costs off my trade in value...becuz if i fix it, the culprit may be back right....

i usually park inside over the night, but if during the day i go do some errands and come back home during the day i park outside becuz i may go out again later on and dont want the hassle of reversing in and out of garage (being lazy) so then i change my mind and dont go out, car is outside... but if i know for sure i''m home for the rest of the night the car goes inside.

Life is far too short to constantly worry about thieves and vandals attacking your car.

I have been working on these for many years and you have the first stolen camera I have ever seen. There is a good chance it was a rookie or child since you cannot do anything with a camera out of the car. The amount of wiring and testing you would have to do to make it work are by no means worth the reward.

If you get rid of it what would you replace it with?

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement ;)

the car dealership says this is the first stolen camera he has seen as well, he has seen sidemarkers but not a camera. Can it be that someone else broke their camera and was driving around the neighborhood looking for a quick replacement? like does the EX35 rear view camera fit any other infiniti or EX35...it's no use without the wires right??????????

I am thinking of trading in my baby (EX35 is what I like to call it :chuckle: ) for a 2011 BMW X3 35i w/ m-sport package...the rear seats in my baby are too tight for the adult passengers (my parents when they visit me) in the back.....
