This past weekend I removed the rear seats, trunk carpet and panel from my '89 240sx when I relocated my battery to the trunk and installed my Recaro SRD's. I would have put it back together but I kinda like the look and weight savings idea. Does anyone have any pictures of their removal and attempt to dress it up. I would like to build a flush board across the rear trunk to make it more visually appealing as well as reduce the road noise. Any ideas? Dynomat gets heavy with too many applications so I'm looking for other routes first. Thanks -Nick

This is what I did. Make a template out of a big piece of cardboard. Then take a piece of wood (I used particle board) and trace it on. Cut it out, shave as needed. Mark 5 or six holes in the rear wall onto your board so you can mount the thing. Get some generic grey carpet from schucks or autozone or some place. Stretch it over, staple it on (I did front and back). I would recomend using some spray on adhesive as well since mine has sagged slightly over time. Then clean the carpet from the holes and mount it with some bolts. I used wing nuts on the trunk side so that it was easier to do alone.

Oh, and then when I put the trunk carpet back on, I just cut it where it would have gone up the back seat and only used what covered the trunk.

I've been meaning to do the back floor as well but have never gotten around to it and its been like two years lol.

Oh, and I used particle board because of its density to block the trunk from being a chamber for the exhaust noise to bounce around then channel itself at the front seats. Reduced noise big time. The best way to reduce noise though it to go turbo...

Ive always wanted to do somthing like this, being as my rear seat is useless due to the harness bar, Ive just been too lazy to remove the rear seats or anything like that, I like the particle board idea because of the noise canceling.

What you want is thick enough that it wont break from being a little rough on it but thin enough as to not add a ton of weight. Chances are though, you will end up with something that weighs nearly as much as your back seat anyway.
