I would like to get in touch with someone who has performed an actual swap from the KA24DE to the SR20DET! I have done as much research as I can on the web (for over a year now) and am getting ready to actually "do it!" I would really appreciate any and all advice (technical) as far as PROBLEMS to expect or things that hung your swap up. I already have all my parts, so I dont need advice on that, just things to look out for, or things that you wished someone had mentioned to you BEFORE your install! Please feel free to send responses to [email protected]

You could have easily found what you needed by searching, but I will be nice.

What generation S do you have, and what generation motor are you swapping in. Many of the problems are specific. I know from experience there are lots of little things that are not mentioned in write ups, you need to understand that its going to take you a little while. The reason these things are not in write ups is because you should be able to figure them out for yourself, everything about this swap is really straightforward. The only thing I farmed out was the wiring, because putting an S13 motor into an S14 is a wiring nightmare, and I wanted it done right, other than that it was easy.

Some of the things many people dont think about are sensors, if you have a sensor on the engine, that talks to somthing on the chassis, you need to retain the sensor from the chassis, in my case, this meant using the coolant temp sender and speed sensor from my KA on my SR. It also meant using the power steering bracket and pulley from the SR, but the pump from the KA. With a little common sense, and clear thinking, you should be able to work your way through it.

One thing I would not suggest, dont get drunk while working, its bad juju, and it will bite you in the ***. If you get frustrated, stop step back, and give it a minute, sometimes the only way to fix a problem, is with a second set of eyes. Lastly, no ghetto rigging, if your not going to do something right, dont do it at all, dont rush things just to get the car running, you will regret it.

This is the best advice I can give you, I bid you good luck.

PS, welcome to Nico, and post some pictures of your car.

Yeah, thanks! I have a 1993 S13, I was worried about sensors too, but obviously as you know it's a pretty straight forward swap. My only huge concern is that I will have 4 days to complete the swap. This is my daily driver, so I want it to go as smooth as possible. I am also concerned about vac hoses, etc. Is getting one of the "Swap" videos worth it? I have replaced damn near everything at least once on my 240 as I bought it with 80k miles in 2000 and now have 240k miles! It's not the swap that scares me but all the "Stuff" that you didn't plan for or aren't familiar with popping up! Thanks again for welcoming me, and I have a ton of pics posted on my myspace page. YOu can search by email and put in "[email protected]" to get to my page! Any further help is greatly appreciated! I am planning on showing some of these guys in ATL what a 240 can do!

I didnt use a swap video and my swap took me 3 days, but I had spent months researching everything. I would have gotten a swap dvd, but they weren't around when I did my swap.
