the topic title is pretty self explanitory, i ran into this guy today and he had an rb25det (skyline motor) in his z32. i thought it was pretty crazy and i want to know if anyone else has seen or heard of this or any other swaps like this? i have also heard of z32's with sr20's but never this, does anyone know how these swaps compare to the stock vg30dett?

at the end of the day, youll spend more money on making the same amount of power on a swapped RB then the stock VG... its nearly as good of an engine, but parts are harder to come by for the RB....

The RB25 makes less power than the stock DETT... the DETT makes 300, the RB25 makes like 250-260..

It doesn't make financial sense.

But, I've seen pictures of a few and heard Jerry talk about several with RB swaps.

the bottom line is people are gung ho to bust a nut over the RB when its not really much better than the VG, VH, and so forth...

BTW the VH45 makes the same power as the VG with no boost

Seen it done. Only real advantage is to be able to say "hey I've got an RB!". Cause ya know that impresses some people

At the last z32 meeting in georgia,( south of atlanta) A guy installed a rb26 and it was a very good looking job. He said he had little problems with the install. Im a firm beliver in the vg30dett, since with a lot of boost, fuel and good tuning you can make over 600 @ rear and live long.. I just finished one that did 674 rwhp and 702 torque with all stock componits, just head work. Few years ago did one for a gentelman in north alabama that made 842rwhp, with lotsa head work stock bottom td05 turbo kit, with a 125 shot.

Why the VG30DETT has so much potential? Why is it sooooo cool to swap motors...

yea, I dont understand swapping your 300hp vg for a 250 hp rb just to say you have an rb, plus the z32 is probably heavier than the skyline slicing off more hp. I think it was an original idea for a show car, but as for performance i would be more prone to just pump up the old vg

And i beg to differ about the rb25 being a dog. Ill be able to get 500 to 550 @ rear and should have a long life. The rb26 was just to $$$ with what ive done to my 25 i would have just bought my 26. For someone who wants 500 rwhp the 25 is fine. But i respect your opinion.. Oh and by the way, you can call my wife a dog but leave the rb25 out of this .. ha ha ha

Does someone have a wiring dia. so i can wire the diagnostic conn. in my car up What ive got is a 90gtst that had the rb20 so the wiring inside the car is for that car. What is under the hood and is running the engine is from the r33 late model 96 that ive wired into my exsisting harness. Im thinking that if i can get some info from the computer i might be able to fix the issue i have. I found a place in georgia that im going to take the car to after the first of the year to install the e-manage and tune, im trying to get all the bugs out before i take it to them..

Seriously, the RB20 is even a better motor than the 25. But I stand by my word..RB26 or nothing. ITB twin turbo ftw. Is this your first RB motor? (besides the obvious one that was in there) I had an RB25 in my HCR32 back in Atsugi (swapped after I blew the 20). I got it out of an R33 GTSt at the time which was nearly new (rear smashed to bits). The motor was decent at best and I had #'s close to what you're hoping for. I hope you have serious headwork planned with beefy cams and a nice GT turbine so the lag doesn't put you to sleep. RB25's aren't the greatest reving motor in comparison to the rest of the "family".

Well, to each his own. Im making right now 468rwhp with a 60-1 turbo, 450cc, afc, greddy intake and a ( ready for this??) stock maf sensor and ecu.. I know, Im just playing right now, but when the rest of the funds come in ill be able to finish what ive started.. I like your approach to all of this, and i wish i could have done the rb26, but for what i was wanting this will do..

my problem is that you could make the same power with the VG for less money

Hot. I dunno. I've always tinkered with the idea of putting an RB in a Z. I know I know, same power can be made from a VG, but god, I6es sound so sexy. But then again, twin turbos spooling and the response from them must be amazing.
