Its a fanboy car because he swapped engines for something that isn't really an improvement just for the "ZOMG RB!!!1!!!" factor....HashiriyaS14 wrote:I'm not sure how it'd be per se a "fanboy car".
An example would be 2JZ 240s. RB's are infinitely simpler to get into the cars, but people do 2JZ's anyway just because it's a cool thing to have.
they also came with a vg30de, without the turbos. 300zz tt swaps are a major pain in the ***, maybe the owner figured this would be just as hard, and something he could be more proud of. just playing devils advocate.Red coupe wrote:Some of the Z31s came stock with RB20s....So Id imagine the mounts actualy wouldn't be that hard to work out...
Seems like a bit of a fanboy car though, they came with the VG30DETT....RB doesn't seem like that huge of an improvement....
Ok, how about when Top Secret put a 3SGTE in a JZA80 Supra.Red coupe wrote:Its a fanboy car because he swapped engines for something that isn't really an improvement just for the "ZOMG RB!!!1!!!" factor....
I get what your saying but your example sucks...240s came with a NA 2.4 liter 4 cylinder. Swapping a 2JZ is quite the upgrade. If the 240 came stock with an RB26DETT, and people still swapped out for the 2JZ Id make the same comment there.
That was what I was thinking.. maybe it WAS originally a non-turbo car and instead of swapping a turbo version in, he opted to drop a RB into the equasion. Hell I think its cool, call it a fanboy swap but its unique and i like it.srpowered240sx wrote:they also came with a vg30de, without the turbos. 300zz tt swaps are a major pain in the ***, maybe the owner figured this would be just as hard, and something he could be more proud of. just playing devils advocate.

I'd rather have the VG30DETT and put the money from the swap into making a beast out of that. 90% of people out there would agree with me if the VG had been "the Skyline motor" instead of the RB.
Not saying I don't admire the work that went into it. I just don't see WHY the work went into it.
Actually top secret knew exactly what they were doing when they used the 3S-GTE in their supra. The 3s can produce tons of power reliably and is lighter than the 2jz. I believe some JGTC supras also use the 3S. Tom's Supra comes to mind. anyways, i like the rb in the 300zed looks like it belongs there... kind of like an rb swapped 240HashiriyaS14 wrote:Ok, how about when Top Secret put a 3SGTE in a JZA80 Supra.
TOTALLY unnecessary and nonsensical, but they did it anyway, and it was cool because it was weird.
This guy wasn't swapping his car necessarily with optimal performance for his $$ in mind, he was just doing it to do it. If he can blow the money for no particularly good reason, more power to him.
Anyone ever see the SR20DET Z32? It was a Japanese job, totally nonsensical also, but still neat.

But.....
Speaking for everyone who said something negative about the car in anyway, we dont hate it. Im pretty sure anyone of us would kill for it. Its just that assuming it was TT before the swap, we would put the money into the current engine and make it more badass.IWannaS15 wrote:The most unique motor swap in a Z32. This is the second Ive seen. The first was a silver one in a Japanese magazine. It had the weird tear drop bulge in the hood to clear the motor.
This one is clean and mounted properly. I'd kill for an RB powered Z32. I dont understand how you guys can hate on this.
