which parts from our US cars interchange with the rb20det? I know Night has some stuff on the rb25det but what about the rb20det?

oil filters? spark plugs?

does anyone know which oil is best? does it need to be synthetic?

which motor oil to use for the transmission? 10w-40?

from what I've heard of:

the sr20det and maxima clutch kits should work with the rb20det...

anything else?

I know the oil filter on a KA24DE and RB block are the same.

I've also heard unstable comments about the ka and sr short shifters being compatable with the rb20det...anyone have confirmations on this?

I have confirmation on it. The shifters are interchangeable. The transmission internals are the same...cases are different.

300ZX spark plugs and coil packs are the same. On a turbo motor you want to use a full synthetic. Somthing heavier like 5-50 or 15-50, it will help prevent your turbin from coking. I would use redline oils if I was in the states. If not then I use Mobil 1 15w50.

Dennis:

When you say that the transmission internals are the same. Do you mean the rb20 transmission's internals are the same as the sr20 AND the ka?or just one of them?

This is probably why rbsileighty didn't have to change his driveshaft.

no what he means is that the transmission is basicall the same, ie you can take out the gear set from one and put it into the other. the bellhousing pattern is different. the reason you change or don't change the driveshaft is the length

correct me if i'm wrong.

WDRacing, the 3Z stuff, is that compatable with the rb20 also because night said its compatable with the rb25 but are you pretty sure its also compatable with the rb20? just want to make sure bro...

anyone have info on oil filter for rb20?

what do you guys think about Valvoline 15-50 racing formula synthetic blend?

I'm still skeptible about rbsileighty's striaght drive shaft swap...i'm not doggin him, since he did do it already, but other people said that it wouldn't work...i guess i'll have to see it for myself this summer...

Just FYI... the speedo out of the KA (electric) will swap out directly with the one out of the RB trans. I tried it when I got home and it works. I am in Charleston SC now so I have been away from the comp for a while (don't have internet access yet... at a friends now). They job at Bosch rocks by the way!

Most of the RB25 parts will swap over to the RB20.

thank you WDRacing...

one question about injectors...i knoe the series 5 RX7 injectors should bolt right in...part number: Denso 195500-2020

those are the 550cc injectors...now the question is shouldn't i be able to use the 440 non turbo injectors too?

86-87 13B NT low square center, 460cc, red top, part # 195500-1350

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...33554

like i've said before, since my goal is not gonna be over 400hp, shouldn't 440's be sufficient?

I heard it was a rule of thumb for 6 cylinders that the cc's of the injectors will give you the max fly hp out from the injectors...anyone ever thought of using the 440's or do you think that is way too low to be running 350 to 400hp and I shouldn't have even thought of it in the first place?

yes 440s would be ok, but that's pushing the limits of them. you also mention S5 injectors, but the S5 was 89-91

edit: those are top feed, i thought the 20 and 25 were side feed.

nope...only the rb25 is side feed...the rb20 is top feed high impedence...which is exactly the same as the 89-90 ka24e's...

I'd just thought shiet, if i only want 400hp, i think 440's should be good enough be daym, 440's are cheap as hell on ebay... i can probably get a set of used 6 of them for under a hundred...

RB20 uses the KA driveline straight up and you can swap dust covers. 15-50 should be kool.......as for syn vs standard id be careful on straight syn due to seal shrinkage. alot of the info is on megalla.com and rb20det.net for the parts. Knight also did all the parts swapping too. oil fiter, fuel filter is ka clutch is 300z na. manual transmission fluid is 75-80 or wieghts by tempature but GL4 is i believe what is recommended. My qeustion would be could i swap the mechanical speedo of the rb to the electrical unit of the ka?

thank you vududoc...

you wouldn't happen to know the K&N oil filter number for the rb20det now wouldn't ya? hehe...well, if you don't, when i got the time at work, i guess i can cross reference it...

hmm....i wonder how much does a nissan oil filter cost?

kinda brain fried from school at the moment but isn't the 240s equiped with a inline fuel filter or is it in the motor?

how come i can't go to rb20det.net? do you mean rb20det.com?

Sorry, that is just plain wrong, Cam. There are at least 4 different oil filters at the dealership. The KA one is different from the S13 SR20DET is different from the S14/S15 SR20DET, etc. Sure, there are 50 different engines and only 4 or so filters...but there isn't just one filter for everything.

Fram may make a filter for everything, but Nissan does not. The filters are different...some larger, some smaller, some have shorter threads, etc. There are some little differences.

And, lemme get this straight...are you saying that the Fram guide listed the S13, S14, and S15 SR20DETs and listed them as the same as the KA filter?

But you shouldn't be putting Fram filters on any engine you care about anyways. Didn't you guys ever read that minimopar oil filter study? Fram filters are the worst!

What about the oil filter for the RB20DET. Also, does anyone know where I can find an intake for an RB20DET? Thanks in advance.:)
