basic tune up, replace tbelt, tensioner, idler water pump. Fmic, chip the ecu with nistune or old school non real time chip setup and run an emulator. Bigger fuel pump, deno or the walbro or Bosh 044. Good downpipe and good 3" exhaust. Ohh FPR then tune it and don't go over 12psi.

^^ Everything he said, plus a decent clutch (nothing too fancy). If you don't have the cash for all the above the tune stuff can probably come later.

That, is what I would like to know. If your car was a JDM S13 or 180SX then you could use everything from your clip to make it bolt straight in however I am unsure as to the 240SX front subframes and transmission crossmember hole locations as we dont have the 240SX here.

In terms of stuff to do while you do the engine swap, all of the suggested parts that Yellow4g63 mentioned (although, i'd reccomend a Bosch 040 over the 044), as well as obviously some sort of a hard pipe intake. RB's love solid pipe kits

Yes you use the Crossmember from the Skyline clip and bolt it up to your S13/14.

you may have to shave a little from your hood if you use the rb cross member.

If you have the cash i really recommend getting the tophat mounts.

I think I spent like 2k to get my swap done. I did all the labor myself but that was not with a fmic. just motor/mounts and tune up parts.

who else sells mounts for the rb20? I used the r32 xmember on 2 swaps so far and both times hood clearance was a problem.

I have used Craphat mounts and then switched to the Mckinney mounts. There is someone else who makes a mount kit to use with the skyline crossmember I just can't think of the name.

So i would like to know what makes Tophat mounts "crap".... I have had no problems and i wanna see if there is a real reason you dont like them or if is just ego issuesI agree if you have the clip it would be smarter to just use the r33 crossmember and Syco Performance mounts. You cant use stock mounts or the hood wont shut or you will have to hack the under side of the hood to make it fit

My experience with the mounts was that it did not move the engine as far back as the Mckinney mounts and the material really wasn't think enough. The transmission mount was a huge pain in the *** to install. The Mckinney mounts were alot easier to install all the way around. I fit pullers fans on my s13 with the automatic s13 radiator. they wouldn't fit right with the Topcrap mounts that I had before.

You motor was in the price. I got my motorset for like 1000 or 1200. I got it back in 05 I think. Mounts I got for 300ish. new belt, pump and stuff I got a great deal on. I didn't get a FMIC or FPR either, I just let the walbro run wild.

To the OP, if your getting a front clip, everything you'll need is in the clip.R32 cross member, RB20 engine/trans mounts work great, bolt right in. Turbo elbow clears the steering shaft in S13's with no problem. My hood closes with no problems, and I didn't remove any bracing, but than again I got S13 front . As long as you got the down pipe with clip that your set. Mine was missing the DP. R32 Side mount inter cooler works too, it's a little tight but works just fine.

I would also suggest SYCO turbo elbow, best 3" on the market for R32 xmember with stock mounts. Clears by about 3/4 of an inch from steering shaft, and also mounts to SR20 DP. And all the maintenance items mentioned above are a real good idea too.

Enjoy the swap, and all the info you'll ever need are on this forum.

1. either run a spacer to move the elbow back.2. Custom elbow that routes around the steering column.3. Grind a few millimeters off the side of the elbow to allow the steering column to pass (or other means to get the same result).

Its not that big of an issue just something that needs to be addressed when doing the swap.
