Alright so I bought new injectors (440cc) and a walbro 255, and I'm getting ready to swap all this shiz in. For now I'm going to run my stock t25, but Im gonna up the boost to about 12psi (heard that was a pretty safe level), until I grab a gt28 or 30. Anyway my ECU is bone steezy and I was wondering how I go about putting a ROM chip in it. Ive heard that this is a good way to go and its relatively easy on the ol' billfold, ya dig. Ive even heard that you can get one setup for you online??!! Thats fresh...lets do that! Anyway, how accurate are these things, and how easy are they to put in. Im under the impression that if your ECU is stock, you have to have someone solder in a......chip plug.....or whatever so you can plug the chip into the board. Anyway, if you guys have any suggestions or information, it would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Soldering a socket in is pretty easy.. but you can screw up your ecu What chip are you going to use?Are you familar with eproms, fuel mapping, ignition map, vtc control. There's little need to mod a chip unless you're adding larger turbo or injectors.I see that few guys know anything about the idle settings you can do change... ...

BTY, just so you know up front I'm a Nistune Dealer and the only qualified installer for the US But I talk to 5-15 guys aday about tuning..

Not at all familiar with these things. I am going to be upgrading my turbo and my injectors, and want to run somewhere in the vicinity of 16psi. I didnt have a particular chip in mind, was just going to have a shop tune one for me...or however it goes. Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

I don't know what the chips sell for on the RB's But they are all generic,, not specific for your car...unless you have your car on a dyno to tune the chip and a wideband. With Nistune you can change injectors , intake as simple as a click on the software menu. For a upgrade turbo you'll need different fuel maps and ignition.. You can get the upgraded maps on the internet. In addition Nistune has the diagnostics for sensors ,, injector,, tps settings,,, fuel temp,,,,maf adjustments... More expensive than just a chip,, but do you really want to do the mods on your car and not get the full benefit of them???

i too m interested in Rom tuning a RB20det. i did lots of research on the subject B/c i was going to go kat, but came across a good deal on my rb. im upgrading to a hx35, want to boost between 12 and 14 lbs. upgrade injectors to gtr's 444CC, which ill prob b burnin 91, or i can get aviation fuel anytime which is 100 or so, but idk, ill be using a z32 maf with stock rb20 ecu. would a rom tune be the way to go? or just too much hassle and just bust the wallet and get a safc ii?

You should start with a tuned eprom then go to the AFC if needed,, but you should have a wideband also. If you're suggesting using a AFC on a stock rom with upgrades your asking for trouble (BOOM). The stock eprom does not have the needed enriched fuel maps nor the added ignition maps that's why you need the upgraded eprom.

well since it seems that my name was mentioned and i happened to stumble across this thread while looking for something in the tech section i'll add my .02c ...I do indeed do rom tuning but when i tune cars i use customer feedback to refine the tune for the individual, this allows for an accurate 'mail order' tune that suits the setup of the car. Many of my customers have had great success with the tunes i have provided and developed for them making very nice power and retaining stock drivability. One customer posted his results on nico in this thread:zerothread?id=292324

upon intial dyno he provided af charts and mentioned that it felt like it had a hole at around 5k and sure enough looking at the dyno and based upon what he had said there was a hole in the ignition map which i promptly corrected and shipped out a new chip.last i had heard the new chip was working beautifuly with no issues and the hole issue resolved.

When modifying the ecus I also use the proper tools, this includes full prep of the ecu as well as use of a hakko 880 desoldering iron that ensures that the ecu does not get damaged.Temp controlled soldering iron and quality solder/chips/sockets are used to ensure reliabilty.

Nistune is a great system for tuning but unless you know what you're doing its a very quick way to torch a motor just like any 'standalone' system. It is almost as bad as using an AFC to 'tune' a car as nissan eccs uses 'linked' maps where tweaking the maf signal to lean or enrichen will cause the ignition maps to shift as well...again not a good thing and a quick way to put a hole in a piston. Also i strongly encourage you to NOT do buisness with some one on ebay or who 'claims' to know how to tune and does so for a very cheap price...i have seen several different ecu 'tunes' that customers have sent their ecus to me to look at only to be horrified to find that it was a stock chip with just rev limiter cranked and stupid timing added to the chip or just simply no founded basis with fuel enrichment and reduction of timing or anything you can imagine really. The tunes i send out to people have been either a) developed on my own car or b) done on local customers cars.My personal car is mapped for up to 22psi of boost and runs z32 maf, 720cc injectors, cams, and a gt30r turbo but starts on a dime every time with great streetability.

If you would like more information please email me as that would be the best bet to discuss without cluttering the thread.

This certain ebay person, actually did a damn good job on my tune. A little bit rich during idle but a nice safe rich tune throughout. Car Idles perfect, and pulls crazy hard at 1.5 bar. 740Cc injectors, z32 maf etc, etc. I have a e-manage ultimate to data log and fine tune but the only thing I had to adjust is idle fuel at above 100°. I have room to turn it up to 26 psi with 93 octane.
