Well guys it's as simple as this.....myself I have just replaced the coil in my rb20...I have only been driving the car for like 3 months now.I hear due to where they are located that heat plays a major role in their failure. So a solution I have been hearing about is to use the coil from a Grand National and wires to the plugs.Apparently these are much more resilient to heat and fire exceptionally well.

Has anyone done this conversion on here??What do you think about it??Is it worth the $$ for a modest build??It's much cheaper in consideration to doing a splitfire coil setup or something similar to a splitfire coil setup, however the parts are not that plentiful.

Any input would be good, this could help quite a few rb20 peeps.

I don't really know but have you searched it??

I think people are just using GM coils and using the 6 wires from the ignitor to send a signal to each coil. Don't really think it was too crazy technical.

Again I don't really know SEARCH it.

i think there is a conversion for the gn coils. from what i know using the individual coils (like msd) you have to use a diff ecu, and coils like those are used in tec3 ecu's and the like. id like to know this also, but havent found any good info, just people having said they did it.

Mine has Z32 TT coils... Don't ask they on there from the guy who did the swap! Frankly a dumbass idea, they do not sit low enough to bolt in so the other day I decided to give it a little hell and burn the tires for a little bit, well the #4 coil popped off... yeah they're not on there real good. I'm saving up for some splitfire's or something.

I have seen the Gran Nat coils used as well as the LS1 coils.

If you keep the RB coils.. I'd advise removing the coil pack cover. Those goofy metal plates hold all the heat in and just cook the coils to death.

if you don't have your coil pack cover on, how will anyone know if you have an RB! o noes its not a sr20 or ca18!!!!!!!!

seriously though i'd be worried about dirt and stuff getting in there. every time i change my sparkplugs, even with the coilpack cover on i still get a lot of dirt and debris in there. I have to blow out the spark plug valleys else crap would fall into my combustion chambers.
