I think the market is really in the tank for a lot of these parts. Look at myself, I've had an awesome manifold for sale for like 2 months now, selling it for almost half its cost and its hardly used. Still in my basement collecting dust.

I really don't feel the market is there for these engines in the states.

A little off topic but so many companies make copy intake manifolds that fit our cars no problem, how bought an affordable exhaust manifold made to fit the S chasis comfortably? I think more people would jump on that than buying an intake manifold.

a vertical mill will do you almost no good on a intake mani.... trust me... all it can do is cut the TB flange and cut the holse for the stacks to fit in...

...and also drill and tap the holes used for any vacuum lines, Air Controllers and machine the surface finish needed for a proper seal on all the gasket surfaces. A 3 axis mill would be more than capable of machining an intake manifold.

But I am not trying to argue opinions on what a machine can do or not, just trying to get a feel for the market.

Thanks to everyone who has voted so far!we are currently pricing things out to see what it would really cost to get the space and machines to do the work!

I've been selling parts for a while now. There is always a market, but, just so happens in this economy right now the market is slow. But, at some point it will get better. The problem is...who knows when it will turn around?

yes these are all things my 4axis cnc mill can do but it is not cost efective to use a $50,000 cnc mill for a drill press. are you going to cut this thing out of a billet? if you have it sand casted then you can use a cnc mill to clean it up and do the flanges if you want a mill just buy one .. but you will not pay for a mill with this dream project... sorry.

^ thats what it is starting to sound like.. I was planning on trying to get a used mill from a machine shop going under. but even still it seems like the market just isn't here for them. It's starting to look grim, especially since i have only gotten what 20 votes....

Change your poll to include composite intakes and Ill vote. Nothing up there appeals to me.

Evan

BTW, I do agree the market sucks.

sorry to be so harsh but I have built RB manifolds for a few guys, and there is no $ in them for the time it takes to build it... as for the cnc mill you need to be making tons of the same part ot make it worth the time to write the code to cut the parts... next week I will be running oil return and oil feed flanges in batches of 500 each just to make it worth doing, while I am waiting on the prototypes for the next run to get the ok...

hey no offense taken, at first i was a little mad (unjustifiably) but I know you are just speaking the voice of experience. Thanks for you advice, and for the project i think i will throw a digital readout manual mill that i can run on my free time or something, to make it low cost.. I think the conclusion of this project will be that it is a dead end.

Have you posted your idea on any other forums like the aussie, uk, canada skyline forums. There are a lot more guys running RB20's there.

Make exhaust manifolds. The market for a decent manifold that fits the S Chasis is very small. 6boost and Full Race being the only ones and there both on the pricey side. If you can make a good fitting manifold for around 500-700$ then it would be a done deal. You dont even have to get fancy with twin scroll setups. Just do a conventional T3 and T4 manifold with a 38 or 44mm wastegate. You can even make 4 bolt or V Band downpipes made to fit and sell as a kit for around $1k. This would save alot of us having to get exhaust pipes made when upgrading the turbo.

What about just making a set up for rb20's at least for the upper plenum. I wouldnt imagine it would be to difficult making it work for a fmic. I dont know if hood clearance would be an issue. Just a thought i mean the runners are almost same length. Im sure there are gains to be made in that design alone. Plus no coolant runnin thru and it would be a simple bolt on. =market. he
