Ok, i need your solid advice lol. The car im looking at is a 91 240sx se w/hicas and a buddy of mine was like "if your gonna do an engine swap with an rb you DONT want hicas" so i figured i would ask the experts... so post your experiences (i will not be drifting it will be a daily driver but i do want to build it)

Also one more question, which engine would be you advise for this car (if you choose that hicas isnt going to make a difference / be a problem)

Shouldn't make a difference really, most people get hicas eliminators. The only good thing that comes out of that car is

leatherabs (which is very finicky so it may not be to your advantage)stock VLSD

so, really only stock lsd, and leather seats, thats the onlything good about your car.

Most people put on a hicas eliminator bar which locks the thingies which allow the rear to steer. I think your friend is thinking of hicas diagnostics, that somehow it may not wire up right, get a hicas eliminator if the car is priced right.

well this car doesnt have leather.... is that an option someone just chose not to take when the car was brand new? Also how much does the eliminator thing cost? the same friend that told me the hicas was bad was also saying the eliminator thing is like 500 dollars, is that true?

would that make any differance for the power steering pump? since all the skylines had hicas wouldn't that mean that he could be able to use the the stock pump with no mods to it?

LF: Think about it this way. Most early RB26 engines came from a Skyline with HICAS. Verified by the dual high pressure line power steering pump. So, if putting a HICAS equipped engine in your HICAS equipped car will not hurt anything.

Just most people either uninstall the HICAS or install a HICAS eliminator to eliminate that "floating" feel when trying to drift.

rb20 into a hicas s13 sucks ***.thats what i did on my old car and it made me cry, be prepared to do some serious line bending to make it work right.also you will need to transfer the abs connector from the ka efi harness and run wires into the car for abs to work.make sure to use the ka lower else you will loose the speedo and then the abs and hicas gets cranky.

I have a RB20DET in my 93 240sx w/HICAS and my Hicas works fine ... I drive my care as a daily driver and would probably hate the car if it did not have HICAS. There were no mods with the install for an RB20DET to use the current HICAS system. If you go RB26DETT they use ATTESSA and not HICAS so wiring will be trick on that install, but RB20 and RB25 are a plug in. I had a 90 and 89 with lsd before my 93 and this combo I enjoy the most. I even enjoyed my 300zx with HICAS.

Gosh I cant even imagine hicas. My base model 89 240sx turns on a freakin dime. I don't know how this steering could get any better. It gets bad when I have to pull u-turns in my brothers f250 and have to have 5 lanes in order to do it. I love my steering.~ANDREW

wait so i have a 92 240sx SE and it has the vlsd but it doesnt have abs and it has cloth interior. I have my rb20 already in my car and i already took the plates out of the steering pump to eliminate hicas. How can i 100% make sure my car isnt a hicas.

if you dont have a warning light on the dash that says hicas then you dont have it.also look at the ps resivor, hicas resivors are big and black where as regular cars are gold and small.
