Well I ripped out the HKS EVC because I will set the boost with the wastegate spring, I don't need adjustable boost, I don't have any self control in the heat of battle. I will probably put it up for sale, anyone interested let me know what it's worth to you. So I pulled the intake pipe for the moment and just slapped a super power flow right on the turbo. I will not do that in the final version, I will box the area behind the headlight and insulate all piping. The compressor is hot enough to sizzle water after a few runs. I will be using one of my MBCs to turn the boost up to the max I can run on the final combo and then get the appropriate gate spring to get that boost level without a boost controller. To reduce spikes I made the hose run as short as possible but it still pops up 0.1 higher than intended and drops down to the set boost. So the T04 on a stock CA18DET responds instantly, I would reccomend an A/R .63 turbine housing for anyone buying an E new, the .40 is what the kit turbo was so that's what I am using but IMO it comes on boost too snappy. I was screwing around yesterday in front of my friend's shop. I revved it up to about 4500, dumped the clutch an the car shot off the squat and the tires went up in a cloud of smoke. When I got off it there were some thick snaking black lines 30 feet or so behind me. Don't fear the big trims, they will spin, I have stock cams! So I slowly start turning up the boost finally getting it up a bit from 0.4 to 0.5, spiking to 0.6 when the turbo first spools up. I do a couple of 2nd gear slow climbs watching my A/F and listening for detonation. It's really hot here, think Texas gulf coast so I could still start popping even at a nice mixture with the intake temps. So I start seeing it lean out, give the GCC a click up on the two higher RPM bands to throw some more fuel at it. With the light air today I suspect on a cool night I will need to add a little more. I think I have it about as high as I dare until I get some subs loaded in and a colder set of plugs so I call it a day. I am heading back to the house and decide to drop it on a roll and see how it pulls. It takes off nice then I feel "something" happen. You know when there is no noise, no shake, no twitch of a gauge but you just know something happened, like some jedi ****? Well I got that feeling and immediately got off it and pulled over. I popped the hood and start looking for a blown hose or something loose. I notice the idle is high and then it starts hunting, I look at the idle control solenoid, here is what I see. I damned-near snapped the plug off! The motor must be rolling pretty strong when the boost hits and it smacked the hood. I should be pissed but I just laughed. I enjoy a WTF? thing like that; I always seem to break strange items. Better than something important! I also had to pull the stut bar I had been using because the turbo is in the way. I laid hands on a Cusco which is the only one I have seen that will sit back out of the way like this. I sandblasted off the old paint and reshot it in red. I could definitely feel the difference when I yanked the strut bar and really wanted to get a replacement. UpGarage and $40 later it's back to being stiff. Now when I was screwing around under the hood I notice that one of the big bolts that secure the turbo to the manifold is ****ing gone! Huh?! One other needed to be retightened too. I need to figure out a way to lock these bolts in place, this is stupid. Maybe drill across the heads and safety wire them.
