i propped my hood. i dont know if it lowered underhood temps much if any, but i liked the look of it, even if i get people telling me my hood is not closed all the way. (like it has hinges in the front)

Any extra holes will increase airflow. Increased airflow will decrease underhood temperatures. The difference will be minor, though. Don't expect performance improvement.

if you're talking about raising it by the windshield,
i've heard mix results.
some say it helps decrease temps,
while i've read before that it actually does the opposite.
i dunno,
i guess it looks cool to some people.

I ran a raised hood in my old honda hatchbacks and I have my hood raised in my 240 and it does keep it alot cooler in the engine bay. In my honda it would keep it so cool in the fall that i would only get heat coming out of my vents if I was on the interstate going up a large hill. The air going over the hood and up over the windshield pulls the hot air from the engine bay keeping my rb20 underhood temps alot coller.

it lowers underhood temps supposedly. i remember quite a few years ago some tuning shop in cali was showing of theyr fc3s, it had a raised hood and they said the purpose was just that.
quite a while afterwards it became fashionable to do it, many people on this site were loving it and doing it, whether they admit it or not.
in some cases it looks cool, others not. im sure it does lower underhood temps a bit, but not drasticly. so its personal preference.
its funny how quick some trends go from being so omg dope to wtf looks like a**...maybe youll be able to spot the wagon jumpers?

It looks stupid but it does lower temp.

Just run a vented hood.

Looks like your body doesn't match up with your hood due to a wreck. Buy vented hood, problem sort of solved. Remove hood = win

Raised hoods look terrible to me. Save $600, buy Origin Type II hood.

^^^Maybe. But half the cars I see running rasied hoods have stock KA's in them, like they need the extra cooling... haha. Personally, I prefer a good balance of both form and function in a street car. Equal parts performance and aesthetics. But thats just me. I certainly seen worse trends than raised hoods though.

:slap:
That made no f*** sense. Raising your hood is a function thing, NOT a looks thing.

Why the f*** can't anyone on this website understand that? :gotme

Stop trying to stick up in the defense of it and take it all personally. It barely does s*** to reduce engine temp and even if it did, I highly doubt that it will shave off the 2 degrees that will kill your motor. How about buying a nismo thermostat? There's a proven mod...

That was the point of my post, birdbrain. Raising your hood equates to the same as putting a moldy hood on your car.

The effect and "functionality", as you so choose to call it, of raising your hood is little to nothing. If you want to decrease the engine's heat output you must increase the turbulent flow that reaches the engine, not only provide an escape for the existing air. Raising the hood only provides an outlet for existing air, but if turbulent flow isn't present, that existing air won't be pushed thru the hood's opening.

In fact, by raising the hood you are affecting the car's aerodynamics drastically by introducing an angle of attack separation. This causes the passing laminar air to no longer flow smoothly past the hood and results in the car producing a larger wake and increasing drag. Therefore, you've managed to null whatever increases in horsepower you had with whatever modifications were on the car, as well as decreased your fuel efficiency, by unintentionally increasing drag and reducing aerodynamics by raising your hood.

As you so eloquently said, "Why the f*** can't anyone on this website understand that?"
epic win.

I am wondering how many people that do this actually know what cowl induction is and what high pressure areas are. And for that matter, if it really benefits the engine set-up they have. I've never needed it.
