Actually there is the potential for an increase in flow through the bay by raising the hood. I cant imagine it increasing drag all that much, but at the same time it wouldnt pull that much more air of the the engine bay. There is a nice pressure differential right where the increase in surface area (from raising you hood) which as was said before, is what cowl hoods use. Actaully i have a friend who is trying to use that to aid in radiator cooling but i dont think hes going to get too far due to the relocation requirements of the radiator (not to mention that there is no way that this pressure differential move as much air as whats jammed into the rad in the stock location). Good debate though, it'd be interesting to run a few tests on these to see what the actual gains are.

cowl hoods ( real cowl hoods ) are sealed to the top, the dont let air in the motor by any other means than suction from the motor.

the engine bay is designed from the factory to use the high pressure above and in front of the car and the low pressure underneith the car to pull the air thru the radiator and out of the engine bay...

Import Tuner article...Based on a miata but i would assume that the temp changes would be close between most cars.

Had to raise my hood. Have an rb20 and still using the stock bov location. Look doesnt bother me... Actually red an article on superstreet a few years back and they dyno tested 2 cars with and with out hood spacers. Funny thing was, there was a small increase of HP with the hood spacers. Underhood temps were lowered all around.

Rest assured that I will uphold this in my own right.

... And I read over that article on the Miata. It's interesting to note that the intake is in the rear next to the exhaust manifold. It would be only natural to assume that ANY venting would have helped that, LOL!
