technically they all had heat exchangers... The 90-93 had a single heat exchanger, 94-96 had twin heat exchanger, and then in 97+ they went back to the single...

None are adequate, as they dont cool the fluid so much...

Wes - Your knowledge is invaluable! I thought the B&M unit I just purchased was redundant!

Wes,I wouldnt say "inadequate",as I have 176,656 miles on original transmission without any cooler mods, and it still performs as new.

Member's standards vary..... It may be adequate, but is the best?

It certainly is MUCH better than the 90-93, but i still prefer to have my external cooler...

175K on mine with no transmission cooler and it lived in Louisiana most of its life. But a couple hundred spent on a cooler is good insurance against an early $3500 transmission replacement. You can bet I'll be installing a cooler when this transmission goes.

My 90 had none, so when the transmission was rebuilt in 1998 a radiator with a heat exchanger was installed.

Not true, even the 90s had heat exchangers, but the recall covered an external filter, new radiator and mini cooler under the car.

As far as I know every AT vehicle in the world had at least a single core in rad heat exchanger............if it had a rad at all.............some air cooled engines had no place to put one so they used ATF to air instead of ATF to coolant.

If you think about it the AT is cooled by air passing it, heating up the tail shaft mass----rest blocked by rubber doughnut, and heating/cooling the engine [bell housing bolted to rear].
