Whether you want to go DC or brushless, SPAL makes a lot of great stuff and their technical people are very knowledgeable and helpful. If you want to go PWM, these are both stand-alone controllers that will drive almost anything in the SPAL product line:

I was considering a Flex-A-Lite model 295 awhile back but it was a bit pricey. It is however a complete package that would fit my '02 Pathfinder and the '01 QX4 with very little prefab work. https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c/fl ... turer=true

... and if money is not an issue, you can add a high energy power bank to the fan's input in order to better handle the high amperage power surge demand of these fans when they kick in. https://www.weaponxperformance.com/cata ... ddsnot0ff2

One nice thing about going brushless PWM is that the fan speed ramps up and down, so startup load is much less of an issue than with high-capacity DC fans. Plus a big brushless can obviate the need for a separate A/C condenser fan, the controllers have a "force full speed" provision to blow up a hurricane whenever the A/C compressor is on.

... after that if you still have money to burn, a set WeaponX Level 2 Super Coils will squeeze out a bit more horsepower and a couple more mpg in fuel savings. I actually made this purchase a few years back and realized a big performance improvement in acceleration from a stop and punching it to merge onto the freeway. Long haul driving mpg increase was up to 3mpg. It's not much but that's a big percentage increase over the standard mileage ratings on these heavy R50 models. I didn't expect a short term return on this investment but it was a cool project. https://www.weaponxperformance.com/cata ... cts_id=443

Due to my occasionally using it in extreme conditions I added an aux fan. Not quite where I think you're looking, but... Here's a pic of mine and link to the whole story.
