Have you guys mounted your radar detectors using blendmount? http://www.blendmount.com/I think it's pretty neat using the rearview mirror as mount regardless of which radar detector you have. Anyways, as I was looking for ways to have a discount and I happened to bump into a forum at myG37.com were they have a group buy offering from MGTmotorsports.com for the mount for 20% off price. Regular price is $79 for escort models and $45 for valentine models. I wonder if anyone in the forum will be willing to contact MGTmotorsports.com and we can also have a group buy for our members. Anyone????? Thanks in advance.

I just got an Escort solo2 last month for my Birthday and the windshield mount (suction cups) seems to work just fine. Whenever I park I can just leave the mount stuck to the glass and put the detector in the armrest.

My guess would be that criminals looking to smash and grab out of a car will target a high end car more frequently when they even see just suction cups. They know people leave radar detectors, GPS, phones in the armrest.

If I were you I would get rid of the suction cups....!

You guys are right. I might as well just use the suction cups that came with it. I'll just remove them whenever I leave my car out on a public parking and hide the radar in the glove box. Beside, even with 20% OFF, the mount still cost $65.00 + shipping. Too much to pay for a plastic with aluminum mount that will attract thieves anyway. I do have a coupon I got from a different forum for 20% off the MSRP for the blendmount if anyone is interested. It's only good till this saturday. PM me if you want the coupon.

On my Valentine 1, the suction cups are mounted on a little plastic holder. This holder (and the cups that are on it) are easily removed from the windshield by tugging on a tiny single metal rod that attaches to the cups.

Very easy to use and it removes the cups from the windshield completely!

This looks like a good idea. No more suction cups left on the windshield to attract thieves. The suction cups that are used with the Passport 9500/8500 wear out quickly if you remove and reapply them often (and every time I reapply it, the angle is off). Also, no hassle of putting the radar away and then back again.

It does look like a good idea but It's just too expensive for a little piece of plastic and aluminum mount. If you want them, I have a coupon code I can share with you from a different forum for 20% off the list price. Coupon is only good till this saturday. PM me coz I can't post the code on this forum if your interested.

I had this one for my 2007 Infiniti G35x.

http://www.countryjoycrafts.co...r.htm

It worked really well and because it mounted to the mirror it was hard to tell what it was once you removed the V1. Worked great, and was very solid (made of aluminum). Plus it's only $39.95. I sold my V1 since I discovered I rarely speeded.

Just a reminder - it is against state law in California and Minnesota for drivers to use suction mounts on their windshields while operating motor vehicles. (See California Vehicle Code Section 26708(a); Minnesota Statutes 2005, Section 169.71)

email sent. The blendmount plus invisicord seems like the perfect solution for me. Invisicord allows you to tap into the auto dimming mirror power without splicing.

It did work, but I am still on the fence. Shipping and tax added $11.40 so even with the coupon (-18.80) it will come out to $86.60 for the blendmount and invisicord.

There's another company that makes the cord aside from the invisicord which they sell with the blendmount. Try stealthcords. They are slightly cheaper. Google stealthcord coupons and you'll get another 15% off. It will come out like $12 and change.

I'm wondering if the Blendmount radar detector position will impede radar/laser coverage from the rear. On the 9500i apparently the only rear coverage comes from a space on top and towards the rear of the detector. From the pictures it looks like this would be partially blocked by the rear view mirror.

On the 9500ix model, it's on the top left front of the radar detector. The one I am concerned is the GPS signal that might me obtructed by the tint on the windshield. But you can always call the company and they do have a 30 day money back guarantee. You can also chack out what Pangpang had mentioned before from http://www.countryjoycrafts.com.

I finally decided that this set up was best for me since I hated the cord that came with the radar detector coz it obstruct my view on the nav screen and also removing and reattaching the suction cups to hide the detector when I park in public was a pain in the butt. Got the 20% off before it expired. It actually came out very nice and looked very "factory-original."

I also ordered it, but couldn't get the Invisicord to work. When I first wired it, the radar detector was on even when the car was completely off. When I moved the negative lead to the other wire, it didn't work at all.Which wire did you use for the ground, and did you just push the invisicord leads through the back of the harness, and if so, did the leads push all the way in?

The ground wire is the middle black wire. When you push the invisicord in, the white plastic pops out slightly when the wire goes in. Then you can plug it back to the rearview mirror.I don't know what year is your car but it might have the hot plug (12 volts all the time). That means you might need to manually turn your radar on and off all the time or for my 9500ix, it automatically shuts off after 4 hours if the car has a hot plug which mine does not.

I think that might be true, which makes the Invisicord useless. I am not turning the detector on and off every time I drive. I guess I'll have to find another way to wire it.

In the Blendmount mounting position, I keep getting false laser alerts. When I took the detector down and mounted it to the windshield with the suction cups, the alerts went away immediately. Did you have this problem at all?

Yes. Especially when starting the car. At first, I thought it was the laser from the garage door but it was happening randomly even while I'm already on the street. The other thing I also hated about this mount is that it delays the acquisition of the GPS signal to the radar detector. However, once it acquires it, it works just fine. With regards to the false laser alerts, I mute them and store them as false alarms. I remember reading from a forum at radardetector.net that there are a lot of things that could cause false laser alerts and that include remote controls like garage door openers. So I think, mounting it very close to the homelink on our rearview mirror is the cause. I am planning to register to the forum on escort radars so I can ask the company's technical adviser if there is any solution to it.

I also have the same GPS problem--it took about two minutes to acquire and then lost signal for a few seconds after that. The false laser alerts did not stop until I removed the detector from Blendmount. I tried searching online and couldn't find anyone else having this problem. I can't imagine Homelink is transmitting a signal when a button is not being pressed. Have you ever upgraded the software on your 9500ix? I have a 9500i and never upgraded it.

Also, I was under the impression that Ka and Laser alerts cannot be stored because they are never supposed to be false alerts.

I just purchased my RD last month and actually just upgraded the database yesterday. My software is the latest version. I also joined escortradarforum and an escort representative advise me to make sure the powercord is well secured. I'll do that tomorrow and I'll update you. I am able to store the false laser alerts though.Where you able to fix your issue with the engine light on?

The service engine soon light is still on. I will try to go to Autozone and have it reset. I just hope it stays off after that and no damage was done.

Just re-done my set-up and made sure my hardwiring was secured. Still getting false laser alerts. Still waiting for more advise from escort radar. Will let you know once I get any replies.

I got an Escort X50. I bought a direct cord in Ebay. Search it under "ESCORT RADAR Direct Cord SMART MUTE 9500i 8500 x50 9500". It comes with a neat feature; It has a cable with a flat button at the end that will Mute the radar detector when going off. It can be placed in a conspicuous place. I placed mine by the shifter, but on the left side so nobody can even see it. I did have someone install it at a Sound shop, but it was only $40. The item in ebay with shipping is under $13. I do use the suction cups here in Utah.

Thanks for your suggestion BlackKnight. I'm sure others will find use with that set-up your using. Rsg123 and I have the same set-up and our issue is not the hardwiring but the false laser alerts which is probably caused by the auto wiper sensors inside the rearview mirror. It's a minor issue for me and the setup I have still outweighs the disadvantages I'm encountering using the suction cups and the coiled cord for the RD.
