It probably is not caused (only) by the rain sensing wiper feature because my car doesn't have it (was added to Ms in 2008). Today I did not encounter a false laser alert which is puzzling because everything is the same as yesterday.I like the Blendmount radar detector position and hope it stays like this. I will be wiring it so that power will come from an ignition switched source (probably from cig lighter-->thin wire that can be tucked away in trim-->invisicord leads-->RD).

Whatever it is, it's something in that rearview mirror that causes the false laser alarms. Anyway, I too like the set-up and that I will be keeping the blendmount and stealthcord. Escort is aware and says they are looking for solutions to it. Good luck with your hardwiring.

Still having a lot of false laser alerts which was quite annoying. Called Mike from MGTmotorsports.com (really nice guy and the best customer service I've ever dealt) and discussed issue and option today. Mailed me immediately a longer version of the mount to try even though I have not even sent the old blendmount back. Will try once I receive it in a couple of days. Will update again.

I had to turn the laser detection off on my Valentine. I believe the forward facing lane departure system is sending out a pulse which causes my detector to go off.

I wouldn't think that is the issue since the lane departure system uses a camera only (as far as I know). The transmitter for the dynamic cruise control is under the grille, so I don't think that would interfere either.

Im looking at doing a similar set up in my A/C, but I want to put the radar detector above the rearview mirror instead of below. Would the dotted tint in that area effect the radar detector? I'm finding mixed answers.

Will definitely screw up the LASER warning portion of your detector- should not mess with the RADAR portion, unless the dot matrix is metallic, which I seriously doubt.

If you have the escort ix, you will not be able to receive GPS signal. I actually sent back my blendmount because of uncontrollable false laser alerts. I even tried the longer version of the mount but it still does the same thing. Looks very nice though.

I'm getting the Escort 8500 x50. Hmmm, Ill have to figure something else out then. Aside from the under the rear view mirror mount, has anyone tried on the visor? thoughts on that?

The visor is a great place to mount. Your RD will have a clear view of the front and back. I suggest hardwiring it so it will look clean without the dangling cord attached to your cigarette lighter.

Yes, you definitely do not want that thick cord going from the cigarette lighter all the way to the ceiling of your car to make it completely obvious that you have a RD (even if it is legal where you live, the cops won't give you a break on a ticket if they happen to stop you with one).

Good info there. I had actually decided on the 8500 x50, but when i went to find one - i found a used 9500i for $250. I jumped on that and am looking forward to getting it in a couple days Yeah, Im definatly going to hardwire it- having the wires hanging would be tacky. That aside, Im feeling pretty confident of my understanding on the actual hardwiring of the RD. How hard is it to hide the wire under the head liner of the car, get it down the a-pillar, and to the fuse box without showing. Do I just stuff it in all the way down or am I to find a way to take some of the interior pieces off?

I haven't done it yet, but I was thinking if you can get a very thin wire it can be tucked into the trim. If that doesn't work well, download the service manual from this site and start removing trim. Let us know how it goes.

Use the hard-wire adaptor that comes with your new detector and tap into sunroof/overhead lamp wire right above mirror and run the 6" of wire on backside of rear view mirror to detector- I did this with my Valentine One 2 years ago- easy and very stealth! No need to snake wires all the way around windshield to fusebox!!!!

Or you can use the Invisicord to tap into your rearview mirror's power.

Problem with stealth or invisicords is they seem to have a marginal connection into the electrical system via the pins that you wedge into the back of an existing connector in your car.....also not sure they are fused to protect your investment. No need to purchase either when your detector comes with its own fused hardwire kit that can easily be tapped and hidden up in your maplight/sunroof control panel.....took me less than 5 minutes and nothing else to buy !

I dont have a fancy mirror (lol) or a moonroof so there isnt anything up there that i can tap into. I may have to snake around.. I'm probably going to get it done a couple weekends from now - after final exams. But Ill be sure to let you know how it goes.

@ qship96- do you mean that you tapped into the power going to the maplight? or just tucked the wires up there? I dont think Ive heard/seen someone tap into the maplight power yet.

Both, although I tapped into sunroof motor wire but maplight wire will be just fine for gaining power to your detector.
