I recently purchased an escort 8500 x50 from a police auction for 150$. I ordered the hard wire kit and suction cups from escort radar and they came in today. I ran into 2 problems when hard wiring the radar. the first problem is the hj11 cord is about a foot 2 short. I think a female to female adapter will fix this problem. My other problem is I do not know what wire to tap into. It came with instructions on how to do it but i dont know which one to use. I figure the cigarette lighter in my arm rest would be the best bet but does anyone know how to get underneath there?

i ran my wire from:

The sun visor

Down left A pillar behind the cousin/rubber

Behind the dashboard

Then into the cigarette lighter in the dash storage area

The picture with the yellow line is the full route i ran my wire. Imagine your looking behind the steering wheel and all that. Hopefully this will help you

If you have an auto-dimming mirror, check this out: invisicord.comI bought mine last week and it literally took under 60 seconds to install. Can't recommend it enough.

Wow, I really like that Invisicord!, but $19 for a 2' cord is kinda expensive. Now where can we get that mount?

Here's a cool mount:http://www.countryjoycrafts.co...r.htm

However, I have my Valentine One mounted high in the tint band for optimum performance and theft deterrence. Looking from the outside of my A/C, you can't even tell I have a radar detector. It's nice to not have to take it down every time I go somewhere.

$40 for a mount? No Thanks. I can't find that Mike's Mount website, where he sells them for around $20.

Just turn the mirror until you can see the back, squeeze with your thumb and index finger and pull it out. It's pleasantly easy.

I'm not sure if it is the same (though I suppose it is), but I have a G35 and I bought my cord from stealthcords.com

Great service and fast shipping.

It was very easy to install...much easier than running a cord to the fuse box. It took like 60 seconds and it taps into the back of your powered mirror.

Just my $.02.

I just bought an 8500 passport as well. When tapping into the mirror can you still use all the features, such as the Garage openers? And is there anyway to keep the mute button function located on the A/C power unit? I really like just being able to hit it rather ran reaching up to the radar.

Id assume the mute button (i know how convenient it is) is no longer an option.. you wont be using that plug... my guess is you would have to touch the button on the detector....

Hello Adidas and Shorts I also have an Escort 8500 X 50. I place mine similar to Adidias on the left edge of the driver side visior. The wire goes down the A pillar, hidden under the vinyl/rubber edging. I connected the wire to the fuse box right on the left under side of the dash. I tapped the hot wire to the fuse marked "10A Audio/Mirrors" and grounded it nearby. Everything works fine.

hope this helps

You would lose the mute function unfortunately, but what you gain from not having to run a wire around your windshield is worth the sacrafice...I think. Plus, on my radar detector it is a simple press of the front side of the screen to mute the sound.

I say check out stealthcords.com, where I got mine. It was really easy to install.

the invisicord has been around a long time, and has a great reputation, you might want to contact them to see if they have directions for you and the prices are very, very good. They were very quick to respond to my questions when I needed some help.

That inviscord product is actually using a technology we've been using for years in the Networking business. POE or Power over ethernet.

Here's an idea..how about not speeding. If you do that, you guys won't need a radar detector. Just a thought....

Yeah adidas, I do speed in Nowhere Pa. but not so fast that it would warrant me having a radar detctor. When I travel to work, my speedo is set to 70mph. Speed limit here is 65mph. Everybody knows that there is a 5-7 mph buffer when statey's clock people. This buffer takes into a account that every vehicle is made differently. So I NEVER get pulled over! As side from that, I'm too old to be hot rodding around. I did that when I was younger, so did it done it. It's hard on the car, and on the wallet if you get caught. I don't care if you do have a radar detector, it'll never matter if they are using a radar gun. As soon as they pull that trigger, it's game over.

BTW,..I bought those items because I love cars and performance NOT because they look pretty. If that was the case, I wold of boought a 2.5! I plan to track this someday when it is all set up. I own a couple of racebikes and I use them to it's fullest potential but that's on the track. On the streets, I try to obey the traffic laws where ever possible.

a radar gun is the same whether its on a cop car or a cop on the side of the road holding it. I think you are referring to a Laser type speed trap. There is no escape from a Laser. However there are very very few police officers that actually use lasers. Since you have to actually stop and hold the laser gun out the window. Most police are way to lazy. For me, my radar detector has saved my *** many times, and on wide open roads in Cali it helps. Just seemed like a pretty hypocritical statement to me.
