Right up front I'd like to say I don't really know anything about Nissans. I'm a DSM guy. I drive a 92' GSX that I'm currently building as project car. I need to garage my GSX soon becuase I'm going to be pulling the motor and doing some other major work. Anyways, I want to buy another car to use from now on since when the GSX is done it won't be a daily driver anymore. I have always wanted more than anything else an R34 or an S15. I've been looking at conversions done on the 240sx and am starting to think that having something close to what I want may be possible through converting a 240sx to one of these cars. I would be buying the 240sx now and not be looking at beginning work for some time becuase of my current project, but I need to know which 240 to get. Which one is best for these conversions. And how close to the real thing do these conversions get you? I've been leaning towards the S15 conversion. I hear the R34 is horrendously difficult and expensive and that only the exterior and motor can be converted. Again, I'm a NISMO noob so please don't bash me if my inquiries are ignorant. Enlighten me please oh masters of Nissan JDM conversions.

240s are 240s. There isn't much difference between the first and second gen S chassis save for styling and creature comforts. Both are good platforms to build with. You need to do some research on if/how you want a project to unfold. Most people here will tell you to leave the exterior stock and just drop an engine swap in and rock it that way.

Get the 240 first.

Drive it.

Then decide on what you want to change.

Welcome to the club!

op,if ur looking to go the s15 route, getting an s14 is probably the closest your going to get to that looks wise. i mean yea you could do an s13 to s15 conversion which personally i think looks beasty, but if ur going for more of that look on the whole car i would go with the s14 to s15 conversion it looks more like it should be there. but i agree with ghast that you should buy the 240 drive it for awhile and then discover what u want to do, and look at tons of pictures on the internet. cause certain things will look better to u at certain times

buy a s14, drop in a sr20 or rb25, let the motor rob you of all of your funds and your first born child!

Ok, gonna try to be nice since you are new. Look at it this way, suppose a 240 owner just logged onto some dsm forum and asked a question similar to yours. Say it goes something like "how can I convert my eclipse rs into a evo9 or a 3000gt vr4." That is essentially what you are asking us. if you want to "convert" a 240 into a s15, buy a s15 and swap vins on it like some other guy has, can't remember his name. Or say you want the r34, look up the full race r14 I believe it's called. that is the only conversions I would recommend if you don't want to be a ricer.

Thanks alot for the input. I think I'm going to start looking for an s14 kouki. I totally understand what you mean about driving the 240 for a while first. It would be a few years before I was ready to do a conversion anyways so I'd have plenty of time to make up my mind. Also thanks for not beating me up due to my inexperience. I'll be back when I've got a 240sx chilling in my garage (right next to a pile of metal that will be my disassembled GSX. ) Later.

I have to agree about buying a 240 then driving it for a while first. Looks like thats what you're gonna do and in my opinion its the best route. Whatever you get, beware of "previous mods". Get something bone stock and make it your baby.
