price on high end RC cars is way WAY down around here. I've seen some models retail $795 on sale for as little as $395. An expensive hobby, considering you could buy some awesome mods for you car with that money.

Go to Radio Shack. I have a 100 dollar car from 1995 and its works like brand new. Part of the steering unit was replaced. New back tires. 4 batteries (2 are good, 2 are toast)

Maybe 13 mph tops. about 1.5 ft long. 5 inches high. 8 inches high with spoiler. Off road associated, rally type. Dropped in the pool once. Love it>>>

well, ive had about 25 different Battery powered ones (like Tyco and such) like the Fast Traxx/Hi-Jacker(my favorite ive had, but completey destroyed it)/rattler(****in gay) etc etc etc so i was thinkin about lookin into the gas powered cars, unless theyres some really quick electric cars:confused:

well...electrics can get fast.. you just have to upgrade everything.

i built a HPI gas powered car and it was a lot of fun building it but again it cost me lik $400 and I played with it all the time in the begening and now i don't even touch it.. other thing is that you have to clean the gas powered cars throughly... or else it will screw up and you will have to buy everything new... electric ... on the other hand.. once you are done playing with it.. you just leave it and be done...

so think about that before you go out and buy one..

Dan,When I graduated from school I looked into the whole RC scene. Electric cars are good, and they can be fast. Nitro powered car (mixture of gas and nitromethane??) are my favorites. It sounds like a weedeater on speed and theyre FAST. Lotsa fun...Check out HPI's site at http://www.hpiracing.comI would start with 1/10 scale, something like a RS4 3 Type SS(the 3rd edition). If you can find an earlier model (RS4 2), you can save some money. People recommned that you build your first car so you learn how it works. But it can be an expensive hobby...BTW, These cars are on a different level than Radio Shack's RC cars!!

I second the Tower Hobbies recommendation. I've been a customer for 17 years! (off and on). Their prices are great (plus no tax outside IL) and service is friendly. Been into cars and planes. The electrics are easy and quiet (and CLEAN). More up-front cost I think, but the batteries will last a long time if you treat them right. Downside is that they go slower as the batteries run out, especially for the older battery technology. NiMH has better capacity and consistency, but it's expensive. Gas-powered cars are fast as hell...sometimes too fast depending on the size of your course. You can get an entry level gas starter package for about $300 that includes almost everything you need. The gas you can buy from Tower or locally. Usually about $15/gallon. Get something cheap and if you like it, upgrade as you go. Swap motors, suspension, bushings to bearings, chassis, etc. How about this one:http://www2.towerhobbies.com/c...*&P=0

FUN!
