The one in the link I posted goes over 50mph. IMO you have more fun at slower speeds cause you can actually control the car and run around a small track. Kind of like throwing an average person into an F-1 racer...he wouldn't have the skills to make use of the car. Top speed becomes irrelevant at some point, unless you just want to race from point A to point B.

In all honesty going to a hobbie shop is no different then going to a car dealership. It deosn't help you any if you have no idea what the hell your getting into or what your doing. Now if you want something somewhat intry level but no expensive. First off don't buy anything gas powered. Because in the in the gas alone will get you. NOw as far as TowerHobbies goes yes they do sell nice RTR(ready to run) kits in various combinations. But the thing is what kind are you looking for and what scale ? Offraod, street, touring ? Do you wanna car, truck or a buggy ? How fast do you want it to go ? OR how big ? Most of your most popular cars are in the 190 to 200 mm size bodies. These are like 18 inches long and about 6 or so wide. If you have any more questions don't be afraid to ask.

I saw a guy playing with a Nitro car at NOPI 2001. That thing was impressive!! This thing easliy did at least 40 mph across a wide open parking lot. Its weird to see something so small go so damn fast!!!

Good Entry Level Car = HPI RS4 RTR or a Very Good Car that is also starter is a Nitro Associated TC3 RTR

TC3 is a great car. COme with good stuff and can be hooked up nicely.

bruckner is local to me, but I don't like them personally, but they do have some good deals. PM if you need any more info. I have been in training for like a year now with this stuff. You wil break a lot of stuff.

One of the best cars for the money to start with is a Tamiya car. the new TA-04 chassis is VERY good. and they are around $130 for the car, controller is $60, battery is $20, charger is $40. thats all you need to get started. my TL-01 Tamiya car had a Celica GT-4 body, but i swapped it for a HPI S15 body. i have a ESC, a speedgems 19 turn motor, and ball bearings so far. parts are hadr to find for mine and its not the best one, but a great one to start with. HPI makes the best gas powered cars, and the new Type SS cars will do 50 out of the box, and with a little work 70-80. i saw one on ebay for $800 that did 80+. gas cars also require a lot of work. the engines must be cleaned constantly and even more often for off road ones. my car does around 30, and all i do is charge the battery. its just something to play around with when im bored. im thinking of getting on of the new HPI RS4 Pro 4 cars or a micro RS4. im ready to step up and get a high performance car instead of the little one i have.

I have a vid of one doing over 100mph...eventually hitting the little bump in the road where the slabs of concrete meet, doing 3 flips, and landing on its wheels and driving away.

go figure...

oh, and i recommend having TIME to play w/ the gas powered stuff. It IS a HOBBY that takes lots of time. Especially if you get one of the kits where you have to build everything but the motor. But when you get done you get a huge sense of accomplishment. When I finished my 12R SS kit, I was like, "**** that thing is bad***". And you learn alot too. You'd be suprised how heavily engineered those things are to be so small. Only thing that sucks about 'em is the maintenace. Clean air filter, motor, buy gas, tires, etc...I forgot to adj my caster/camber issues after putting it together, and before I noticed it, you could clearly see the irregular wear on the tire. I tell you what, between the z31, the s13, and now the damn HPI car, I can't seem to EVER get out of camber/alignment issues, lol. Anyways, they are hella fun.

Bottom line is this: When looking at gas powered nitro cars that go 50+, it's kinda like buying a yacht. If you have to ask how much they are, you probably can't afford one :) ........Unless of course you have credit cards :P lol...
