I want to get new tires for me 92 240sx and i was thinking of getting either 205/55/15 or 225/50/15. I wasn't sure if my rim is wide enough to fit a 225/50 tire on it. If it is will it cause rubbing issues when i turn or on the rear suspension? The 205/55 i figure will give me some better accel becouse i have a j30 lsd and may final drive is way high becouse of i. With smaller tires i should be back to stock 240sx ratios right? Or should i just get anouther set of 205/60/15. I need a good performing all-season tire. I was looking at the ziex 512. Any other good tire in the price range. Sorry maybe it wasn't a quick question:-)

225/50-15's will fit.but it depends on the specific tire.I have a 91 fastback w/ Toyo Proxes FZ4 225/50's.Check the specs on the tire you want-some will fit-others won't.BTW the rim width is 6"-Good luck!-Skot

225-50-15 is not a good application for a 6" wheel.Stick to the 205-55-15.-Chet

225/50's WILL fit if the specific tire's dementions allow it.Some tires will fit say 6''-7''. Look for the specs on your specific tire.Believe me 225 width makes a big difference in corners-plus they look beefier.-Skot

Can you post up pics of the 225's you have on your stock alloys? I'm curious to see how much they stick out and how the tire's bead looks on the rim.

I run 205/60/15's (Potenza RE950's), and i'll tell you they look chubby as hell. Increasing the tire size beyond OE specifications is going to increase sidewall flex even more, and give inaccurate speedo readings.

Just bite the bullet and buy a nice set of 15x7's (or wider) and run your 225/50's on them instead, it will look nicer, and the extra inches will give more support to the tire's sidewalls.

It won't help anything in corners, search around, I've discussed that in finium before. you're also pinching the bead, thusly effectively increasing the aspect ratio of the tire and crowning the top of it, distorting the contact patch.

a 225-50 should be used on a rim of minimum 6.5" width...and even then I'd suggest a 7" for unfiformity of the contact patch and bead support like SD said.

Just because you COULD do it (you can make the tire fit) doesn' mean you SHOULD.

i personally have 17x7 rims and even i dont run 225 tires. i run 215/45/17 and thats b/c thats what the factory suggest, and b/c there is no real noticeable gain in running 225. the contact patch is pretty much the same and the price of 225 tires vs 215 tires just dont justify the marginal gain (if there is even any)..............

^The only benefit of 225 in 17" over 215 are a very limited availability of very specific tire models, and for road cars we don't need exotic.215/45-17 is ideal OD and will always fit, hassle free.225/50-15 belongs on 7" width for best intended use.205/55-15 is a fair compromise and availability in V rated summer performance tires.
