What do you guys do with your used anti freeze? Do you take it to a hazardous chemical drop? Is there another more common appropriate drop off location ?

Thanks!

Each state should have some kind of hazardous materials program to dispose of waste, which things like coolant, oil, or old batteries can be. For example here is a site for people if they lived in WA to help them dispose of waste. Try looking for these places in your states, usually it costs a small fee to dump.

Or become friends with a local auto shop and dump your stuff there, let them deal with it.

If it is just one car's worth of coolant, like 2 gallons or less, you can flush it down the toilet. That is one proper way of disposing of it. More than that I think you are supposed to take it to a place that recycles it.

I am pretty sure that's not true. Not every city's sewage system can handle it. Environment is already bad as it is, there is no need to **** it up because in the long run, it's just you or your kids drinking that water

Coolant isn't THAT dangerous guys... Pour it down a drain. We have no disposal centers here in the Caribbean and we just end up pouring it anywhere. Tried killing a plant with a gallon once and i swore it looked healthier. Down the drain guys! It works!

Now that we are on the topic of disposing of deadly chemical waste... Stuff that can't be burnt in boilers and power generators like old oil can, what happens to them?

And I wonder how feasible it would be to pump fossil fuel waste back into oil wells from whence it came lol

You could always send it to Alec Bradford with James Dalton's return address.

I've always heard to pour it in the toilet as well. It goes to a treatment center after all.

Just find a garage in your area that will accept it most will take it no problem. or you can buy some club soda to mix it with and tell all the annoying kids in you neighborhood its mountaindew.

Used Antifreeze DisposalIf you do not reclaim/recycle your used antifreeze at your facility, it may be recycled offsite by an EPA-approved facility. If it is hazardous waste (because of its lead content), you must transport it by using a transporter with an EPA identification number and prepare it for transport appropriately. Used antifreeze that is mixed with other fluids must be characterized to determine if it is hazardous waste, and disposed of accordingly. Nonhazardous used antifreeze also may be disposed at a landfill that is authorized to accept used antifreeze. Many landfills have a tank designated for used antifreeze disposal. Used antifreeze may not be dumped with regular trash, poured into the sewer, or poured onto the ground.

Way to be environenmentally friendly guys. It is not straight chemicals, but it is still dangerous. If you don't believe me, drink some and wait for your liver and kidneys to fail. By law, it is ok to pour SMALL amounts down the drain, as in ounces, not gallons. Not every place in the world has direct sewage treatment. First place to dispose of is an auto parts store, where in many states by law they have to accept liquids for disposal. Second place is a local environmental disposal place, which many communities have. Last resort is to dig a hole and pour it in, or pour it on your grass. Make sure to spray with water to dilute, animals and insects are attracted to the sweet taste, and it can kill them. Hate to say it but to all the people who said just dump it down the drain, you give Horrible advice. Something like this is not about opinion, it's about social responsibility.

yea guys-take it to an autozone or advance auto parts or similar. i work for safety-kleen, and those guys get PAID when we pick it up, so they will happily accept it as well as many of the local guys. just to straighten out the confusion- used antifreeze, as long as it is not combined or introduced to any other hazardous waste(spent battery acid, solvents) is a material that is non-regulated by the EPA and USDOT and is NON-HAZARDOUS.
