Early this morning my daughter Saraya (5 y.o.) had a very severe seizure and was Air-Evac'ed to the hospital... We've been in the ICU all day, they're not sure what's wrong with her yet.

Looks like we'll be here at least 2 days more... Gotta rule out any bad things like meningitis or a tumor. She's resting now, they've got her all knocked out and full of tubes...

Those of you who pray, drop a quick one for her tonight... I'll be sitting here catching up on email and NICO chat, hard to sleep in these hospital chairs.

Thanks buds!

sorry to hear about that Greg... seizures are very scary things to people who arent used to seeing them, but I gotta say that they ARE very common (especially in young children). I assume she's post dictial now, if the tests seem okay at first you can at least let out an initial sigh of releif. Lots of little kids have seizures simply because of body temp only, although it could certanly be something else.

Keep us posted man. I dont really ever pray, but I will for you (and her) tonight.

G-I will definitely pray for your daughter. I just got back from taking my nephew out to eat so that my mom could take a break. My niece is in the hospital again with liver problems. She was puking up bile. She will have surgery tomorrow. This will be the 4th major surgery she has had in the 5months she has been alive.

AZ,

My oldest niece suffered from occasional seizures when she was little. She's all grown up now. Smart and pretty as ever as I'm sure yours will be. Hope all goes well. Scary times though, eh? Stay strong for the mom.

Thanks guys - She's been pretty sedated since 6:30 a.m. So far, CATscan and Xrays are negative, she's going in for an MRI right now.

She's still running a fever, and they're having a tough time keeping her "under" - She's fighting the medications and keeps trying to "wake up". Strong little bugger, I broke a sweat helping the nurses restrain her legs so they could give her a sedative to do a spinal tap.

Doctor is optimistic, so we'll see how she is in the morning. Thanks much guys, I'm hitting the sack...

Good luck to you, your family, and especially Saraya, Greg. You will all be in my prayers tonight and when she wakes up, let her know how lucky she was to be knocked out for the MRI...there is nothing pleasant about those horrid contraptions except their remarkable ability to help doctors.

Wow... my mom told me I had to have a spinal tap when I was a baby because I was sick one time and they are REALLY supposed to hurt, although I was a baby and can't remember it. Hope everything works out ok :)

Just heard from my mother, Grace (my niece) had surgery this morning to remove scar tissue from her intestines. The scar tissue kept the bile that is produced in her liver (which has been the source of her last operation) from draining. The doctors kept telling my sister that it was the flu and that it would pass. The doctors at Riley Children’s hospital told them to run an Upper GI and they found the blockage. As I have said, this is operation number four for her in the five months that she has been alive.
