Obama proposes to eliminate tax breaks for the oil industry, correct?... doesn't that mean higher gas prices for us (the middle man) as well as everyone else.

Obama proposes to eliminate tax breaks for large companies that out source, correct?.... doesn't this mean companies will out source more to make up for the money lost = loss jobs. This for me (working for a German company) means i will most likely lose my job because the company packs up and leaves.

Obama proposes to "share the wealth", correct?... So i will be taxed more so some low life can continue to be a waste to society? We have many programs already that help people with food and finding work, why do they need another check? I see enough people driving brand new cadillacs, and brand new clothes, with the new jordans and gold jewelry in line in front of me at the super market paying with food stamps, and under obama i'm paying even more for that? I haven't had new shoes in over a year, and i work hard for my money. Really hard and its not a lot of money.

Can someone shine some light on this man, because this isn't looking good. IMO Obama winning is bad news for me - the middle man. He's looking out for the lower class, and his votes.

My understanding is that he wants to let the Bush tax cuts expire. So it will more or less be the same as it was under Clinton.

He's promising a tax cut for the lower brackets, but I don't see how he can do that without delving into deficit spending.

Dude, you're asking these questions now? haha

Alright, just as a disclaimer I am voting McCain but I also gave Obama a fair chance for my vote and when comparing the two, I have looked to independent analysis to make a decision. With that said...

He wants to eliminate tax breaks on oil companies in the form of windfall profit tax. The oil companies didn't earn windfall profits for one thing and yes, the tax would end up being passed on to us in some manner and some sort of amount.

He also wants to eliminate tax breaks for companies that does outsource based on the thought that it will help prevent these companies from outsourcing jobs. Fact of the matter is, taxes won't have his desired effect. So whether he actually does it or not shouldn't affect too many people, but the reasoning for it is a false one.

This share the wealth thing is honestly blown out of proportion due to the choice of words that have been used to describe it. Its not socialist, its just a move that looks socialist from our current situation where in our nation's history, it really isn't that big of a deal. Its essentially reverting back to the Clinton tax policy for the rich and giving the middle class a $1000 tax cut. If you make $200,000 ($250,000 if you're a family), your taxes will go up. Another thing is the increase in the capital gains tax.

Both of the candidates' plans are going to increase the deficit no matter what they say. Obama claims he'll be able to pay for all of his programs which is not going to happen (by independent analysis). Obama's will increase it less than McCain. So if the deficit is your main issue in tax policy, I guess you'd have to look at the end result.

I also want to comment on Obama's health plan. One of the main reasons I'm not voting for him is because of his plan because it sets up the path for government control over health care which I'm strictly against. Plus, the problem isn't with insurance but the actual medical system itself. All of Obama's statistics on saving money on people's insurance are created making very large and very improbably assumptions and if they even do come true, it will be about 10 years from now.

Very biased post. As a human being, and as a computer scientist who studied human brain and its basic structural behaviors, I see a pattern on this car forum. Almost all of the administrators and moderators are conservative republicans.

The question is why?

Now that was a biased post.

Seems like if you've studied the human brain that much you would have realized that different brains think different and if one brain thinks different than another it doesn't make that brain stupid.

It's called "Opinion". Everyone is entitled to their own including you. There is nothing "wrong" with being a Liberal and there is nothing "wrong" with being a Conservative. They are opinions.

Yes, I don't have any idea why anyone would want to be a Liberal but again I was probably raised differently then they and live a completely different life so I respect their position.

Did I miss anything? Oh, yes I did. GTFO. Thanks!

Most staff are right leaning? Yes, but not all. Why? What's the point, you wouldn't understand and are pissed off at someone changing a stupid thread title that was all in caps.

Wow, I see that you have some incredible analytical skills there. Too bad they ended when you asked why and didn't actually analyze anything. Congrats on your psych 101 passing grade.

If you don't have something to contribute to the convo, don't post. You make my scroll bar longer than it has to be.

Agreed - while I would love to see a system where everyone can have access to a good health care system ( I hardly consider socailist health care systems as good ones), Obama's plan fails. Once again, he is just saying the things people want to hear - as I mentioned in another thread, Obama would make a great marketing rep. The largest reason for such high costs on medical care is the large amount of people that don't pay - ie the illegal citizens in our country that go to the emergency room with the common cold and don't pay the bill because they don't have to. Hell, there's your free health care right there! Just walk, say you're dying but don't have insurance. The hospital won't just let you die in their waiting room, and they'll take care of you. Problem solved!

This is correct, the tax situation for the top brackets will be much as it was under Clinton.

The bottom brackets is where he and Bill differ. Bill decided that it was a higher priority of his to attack the deficit, a strategy I agree with. Barack commented awhile ago that if he was at the helm in '92 he would have approached the situation differently.

Personally I prefer the Clintonian approach, but unfortunately I can't elect the guy for a third term.

Plus, Clinton was in the right time frame to be able to attack the deficit. He wouldn't really be able to do so today given the economy.

To attribute the Clinton-era economic expansion to the dot-com boom is wildly inaccurate.

There was broad-based growth across nearly all segments throughout the nation, a decrease in the annual federal deficit, across the board wage increases, et cetera.

The dot-com boom and subsequent crash really didn't have a whole lot to do with anything the Clinton administration did. It was also not a significant enough phenomenon on it's own to have created such a broad-based economic revival as was experienced.

Bob Rubin was and is a very smart guy. That's why the "Clinton Boom" happened.

I would think that the huge increase in the markets and the amount of money that was flying around in the tech industry would have had a large hand at increasing Gov coffers along with everything else.

Maybe if there were tons of capital gains tax revenue coming into the government. But it was only a small part of the economy, it just had tons of money thrown at it as castles in the sky were built and subsequently torn down with a huge wrecking ball. The economy as a whole was growing essentially everywhere which was very key for Clinton to attack the deficit. One industry isn't going to affect the government's revenue too much. But to give you credit, the investment in the industry did create growth elsewhere due to the efficiencies of the IT boom.

On this lower .and middle class tax cuts issue.I make around 30k a year, plus my benefits are paid on top off that. Now at tax time, with two kids, and my wife a say at home mom, I get eic(earned income credit)Hey i don't ask for it, but i got it ,so whatever.I pay in $2500 .and get back $5000, maybe more this year?????I don't see how under the so called "Failed" Bush administration how he isn't sharing the wealth already? Now how is a tax cut going to benefit me when i don't pay taxes already!!What is sharing the wealth on top of EIC already??????Sounds unneeded ,and like people being unappreciative of current programs.

And yet, 99% won't be.

As kind of a side note, I find it interesting that many of my well-off acquaintances lean liberal, and my working and lower middle class friends lean conservative. They seem to support the parties that benefit them personally the least.

Alright so they

A blame rich people even though they are rich (hypocrits)B like seafood C think they are better than others (elitist)D some of the above

For the average lib I would say sure, very true. For our staff here though that bleed blue I would disagree. I have come to hold high respect for the libs as well as the conservatives on the staff. They are objective, respectful to opposing points of view and knowledeable.
