my machine shop and a few other people have told me not to have my block bored 20 over.Because the sleeves in the block are so thin and if its bored over it might overheat or not be as strong because of the cylinders being to close to the waterjackets.but i have no choice because when my piston exploded in the cynlinder it stratch the cylinder wall bad enough to were honing couldnt make it smooth so the only way to make it smooth is to bored it over.and i wanted to ask you because your thread on rebuilding an SR is a great resourse that is going to be helpfull when i have to put it together.so did having your block 20 over have any problems.a friend sugested sleeves but i dont want to have to get them.

I know the KAs have issues with thin cylinder walls, I haven't heard of any issues with the SR.

The sleeves in the SR are a bit thin, but they're not that thin. For a .020, you'd be fine. .030 would be pushing it for durability, and for .040 over, I would recommend a re-sleeve.

There are a lot of people running .020 overbores in SRs with no ill effects, so I would say you'd be fine.

What piston are you going to be using?

CP with stock rods and ACL bearings is the bottom end set up im going for.i also have one more quick question if i label the valve spring/rocker arm shims and put them back in there exact place would i need the adjuster tool for the lifters.i plan on getting my head decked and cleaned.im wondering if you can have it done with the springs and valves still in place.

The valves don't come down enough when they're closed to get in the way of the cutting blades. Just take the cams out to be on the safe side.

If you keep all the shims in order (label them, set them in a safe spot where they won't be disturbed in the correct order), you won't need to worry about checking shim height. You only need to check the shims when you replace a valve or get a valve job done. Pretty much anything that would affect the height of the valve stem.
