I just bought two power mirrors today from a coupe owner for dirt cheap. The downside is that they didn't come with any wiring harness whatsoever. None. Needless to say I'm having a helluva time installing them. Each mirror has three wires coming out of it. Not your standard red, black, white either but something like yellow, pink, and lilac. The back of the switch (controller) has 10 pins though, and it's configured like this picture...

I'm desperately hoping that someone can tell me how I need to go about hooking these up. HELP!. As usual...thanks a bunch. -Glyph

Wow, I realize you may find this hard to believe but I did a search, came up with the same thread, and read the whole thing. For some weird reason though, every picture came up on my computer except the one I needed; the wiring diagram. Oh well. Thanks.

That's not funny. Here I was feeling like an idiot. I'm still having trouble getting them to work. My switch has 10 pins in the configuration of my original post while the one in the schematic only shows 7 being used? Why would they put an extra 3 pins on there? My mirror's wires are yellow, lavendar, and BLUE. Not purple like the schematic's? When they show the pic of the back of the switch they don't make it's orientation very clear. I hooked them up the only way that even remotely made sense to me and got nothing at all.

And what is this and what's it trying to tell me?

it shows the seven pins on the left only with two random x'es thrown in. Then for every function(?) it shows two small circles separated by a line many of which incorporate one of the x'es? What are these x'es and where did they come from. And why oh why didn't the person I bought them from keep the harness? I refuse to give up though. I'll fry my entire electrical system first if that's what it takes. dot dot dot dash dash dash dot dot dot.

are you sure you have a USDM mirror switch? Mine only has 7 pins on the back, not 10 like yours. And my pinout matches up to the diagram's pinout.

with this picture, you have to imagine you are looking into the harness plug, not the switch's plug. in the picture with the numbers and X-es, the black dot represents the plug lock, and it then the one with the wire colors is a mirrored copy of the pinout diagram, but you're still looking into the plug.

we'll start with the top plug (RH mirror). the Purple/White is a constant voltage and Yellow/Black and Blue/Black complete the circuits and allow the motors to work (one motor goes left<->right the other goes up<->down). Left/Right motion is controled by the Yellow/Black wire which is the middle wire. Up/Down motion is controled by the Blue/Black wire, which is the right wire (if you are looking at the side of the plug with the lock tab from the mirror) Purple/White is the left wire.

The LH mirror is identical in setup. Pu/W is voltage again and is in the same spot. Right/Left motion is controlled by the middle wire again (Yellow/Blue) and the right wire is the up/down motion (blue/red).

I know you say your wires don't seem to match the color coding of the US service manual. I'm trying to relate the wires by position, but I'm referring to them in color for referrence to the diagrams.

As far as that chart you asked about with the circles and lines, it's a logic chart. It's a cryptic representation of what pins should have a charge based on what switch is in which position. I was never good at reading them.

EDIT: I cross reference my S14 wiring diagrams and CA 180sx diagrams, and all of them are done with 7 pins off the mirror switch and have the same color wires going to the same places.

Thank you Tenkawa. You are both a gentleman and a scholar. I can't begin to tell you how helpful you've been. Suffice it to say that my mirrors are now working and I owe it to you. Again, mucho gracias. -Glyph
