When you turn the key to the ACC position, right before you crank the car should you hear the fuel pump prime?

I have issues with my car starting and then running rough when i do get it started. among other problems.

I just had my girlfriend turn the car to the acc from the off position. I had my ear right next to the fuel pump and I hear nothing.

Thank you.

Yes it should prime for about 5secs before starting the car. You might have a weak fuel pump.

Yeah, Could that cause these problems, THe car would start and run fine then I would stop and turn it off and turn it back on and it would idel rough and want to die then finaly die. I could then wait pull the battery cable and give it 5 mins put it back on and it would start and run fine again.

Untill now, now it will not start at all just turns and thats it.

No sound comes from fuel pump when i turn it on.

It sounds just like a fuel pump. Whats probably happening is when you run the car for so long and the fuel pump heats up it's cutting out. When you let the car sit for a certain amount of time the fuel pump cools down and starts working again. I work at an automotive shop and this is a common problem. You can try and beat on the fuel tank with a hammer and see if it starts working. To bypass the fuel pump relay you can put straight fire to the fuel pump it self in the hatch. Take a battery or jump box and put straight fire to the red wire running to the fuel pump.

Thank you, I am going to go pick one up at the pull a part place and just see if thats the issue. I'll buy a rely and hard wire the pump to the car.

Thank you

the fuel pump wont prime a the ACC position, it will prime at the run position, befor cranking, and if you are having warm start problems, it sounds more like a coolant temp sensor than a fuel pump.

Well, I would aggree but then again its not a warm problem. It was just I could turn it on then turn it off then turn it back on and it would cough sputter and die.

It doesn't have to be warmed up or not. It started out I could pull the battery cable for 5min and put it back and it would start. Now I cant even get it to start at all it just sits there turning but wont run.

you work at a shop, and suggest hitting the fuel tank with a hammer??? were you dropped on your head as a child?
