JDM Engine. You already have some new components that you've replaced already. You'll know that you'll engine is in good shape. I don't know how good the transmission is. I wouldn't worry too much about resale value. When you get to this point it's all about the love of the car. I don't know about parting it. It will take so long to get your money back. You'll have those parts lying around for years. I will tell you one thing, if this happened to me, I'd dump the car in the junk yard, because I don't have the time or desire to part out a car. Then I'd go to the Infiniti dealer and buy a new G35, but I'm in a different financial situation than you. I'd at least price out the JDM engine because of al the money I've put so much money this year into the car. About $3000 this year. I wouldn't want all those new parts and money go to waste.

Wes:

Pull the ad from the paper, don't spend another dime on it. I'd bet a paycheck that noone in their right mind will pay $2K for a non-running Q.

Start dismantling that puppy, and price the parts cheap - You don't want to piss off the parents with parts laying all over. Take lots of pics, it'll be a great opportunity for some of us to see parts of the Q that have never been seen before.

Take whatever beater-ride mom and dad are willing to help with, and horde the cash from the parting project (ebay is your friend).

When she's fully stripped, most scrap yards will pick up a gutted car for the metal....

We have never paid over $1200 [more typical is $700-$500 delivered to our shop] for a non running Q parts car and that one had $4,000 in less than a year old replacement parts: transmission, alternator, compressor, condenser, fan and thermodrive, new Bose amps and speakers..........they all ended up on my Q.

Disassembly labor and a place to put things and the shipping/packing time make it hard to recover a lot unless all sales are local and parts picked up.

Ive been watching ebay and car-part.com.....

I saw a SHORT BLOCK with 60k on it for $300... Dont think that would be a good plan, but there have been some engines with decent mileage under a grand, and the really good ones going for 2 grand...

Im not going to do **anything** until Ive made my final decision... As it turns out we're gonna get a trailer to borrow for nearly nothing..... Cheaper than posted before...

I also got Jesda to help me dismantle the car (who cares, he just has to take it apart, not get it back together ) if I help him with the alternator.....

There is an AMG gremlin around the corner for $300..... Might pick it up and put the Q away for a while and try and DIY a swap...

That's a great idea. Keep the Q awhile until you know what to do with it. That’s if you have the space. You could start taking apart the engine. When you take that baby apart, you’ll learn a thing or two about the engine.

Remember what I said in my e-mail last week about my first car. A 79 Impala. Can't do worse than that. If the Gremlin was good enough for Wayne and Garth, then it's good enough for you.

Good to have supportive parents. When the second clutch crapped out on the 944 Turbo, they made me get rid of it at a loss. Let's see, $13000 for the car, maybe $7000 in repairs, and I got rid of it for $5000. I hope that it died on the scumbag that bought that car from me.

Wes, I have you down as DIBS for those things and when I make an official parting out thread, ill put my prices in there...

However, I will probably only do pickup on the bigger items like the headlights and fenders.....

Hey Wes if something cannot be worked out for shipping, then I am willing to rent a van and drive from NY to pick them up.
