Wow...those headers look friggin wicked. I'm thinking that machine is going to sound pretty gnarly when it's done.

I think you would be better off with a LS1 or LS6 if you want a chevy motor. As far as I know the 6.0 motors are all iron and that will be one heavy mofo. The alum. small blocks are actually lighter than the Q45 engine since they have 1/4 the cams and much smaller heads, and they can make the same power, plus there is probably a better aftermarket for them.

There's already a few 240's with domestic engines. I have pictures of a purplish red S14 with an LT1, and there are a few Ford 5.0's in 240's which seems to work better because of the front sump and front distributor.

There's also a VH41 (old VH41) powered S13 coupe in Australia with the automatic, and some guys in texas were working on a car using a Z31 5 speed. Never heard if they finished it.

Sure enough the LS series engine are lighter than the LQ series, but I'm not all about weight. I am quite confident the power and reliability will more than make up for the extra few pounds of the iron block. To be quite honest I really didn't think the motor would even fit, and I determined it would be very very close quarters.. But thats okay too.

My first plan was to use the LS1 based engine until I started doing some research for parts and whatnot. Basically, I scored a complete 2002 LQ4 6.0 Chevy Truck motor for 1200$ with about 110,000 miles on it. Currently the block is in the machine shop being machined. Most LS1s I've found have been in excess of 3000$ for the motor, and those were missing a lot of sensors, no PCM, wiring, or transmission. So far as I've figured I'm going to come out about the same cost doing an LQ9 build with a LOT of upgrades as I would a totally stock LS1/T56 six speed. Personally I don't think teh car will weigh enough for a six speed, and T56s are junk. Scatter shield for the Tremec TKO-II series transmission to a SBC is about 300$, then the cost of the transmission. They hold about 500 foot pounds, so I'm good there. The weak link of the LQ series motor is the weak rods, which are being upgraded with Manley H-Beams, the stock crank is being used, and weisco forged slugs will replace the junky heavy stock hyperutetics.

I've seen more than a few LQ4s making about the power I would like to see out of this motor with the exact same modifications.. But we'll have to see. Even if it doens't come out with what I expected, it'll still be pretty close to an untouchable car where I live. Look out Supras, The 240 is comin' to town! (Even tho most of the supras around here are in the single-digit ETs..) It'll be fun anyway.

I am going to upgrade the suspension of the car, cage, etc, similar to what youre planning, but I don't really care a lot about weight distro. From what I've seen of V8 RX7s, the slight extra weight from the LQ won't upset the handling by far after my mods.

Btw.. send me those pictures!!
