Why are you working on the car without jackstands? They can be bought real cheap at any auto parts store or even Walmart.

Play it safe. Thirty dollars for jackstands is a lot cheaper than an ambulance ride. It's also a lot cheaper than a fancy wood casket that someone else would have to pay for.

Yep...... For everything non related to wheels, or stuff that needs the wheels off, I use a home made ramp...... Othewise, use jackstands.....

I saw a thing in sears that came with 2 stands and a jack for like 50....... not bad......

I agree! But I had the same problem changing a flat on my '97. I won't trust the OEM jack ever again on this car. BTW, it occurred while changing a rear wheel.

You're gonna spend $$ on a subwoofer box when you don't even have a set of JACKSTANDS?

Dude, priorities are severely out of order there.

And where did you find rotors that cost $200? You could have had drilled slotted rotors for a little more than half of that.

Stereo sounds better whilst sitting on rotors!

If you haaaave too work without jack-stands how about doing us favor, PUT THE TIRES UNDER THE CAR. That's better then losing your legs, arms, head, and or life, then your Q will go to someone that does not care.

DO YOU WANT YOU BABY IN SOMEONE ELSE'S HANDS?????????

BE SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:ylsuper

LOL - That's the FIRST thing you chuck in the box labeled, "stuff to give to the Q's NEXT owner."

I saw a guy get his arm crushed by a falling car. The man is small, very agile, and very quick. If it was any other man that couldn't move as quickly, it would have been a lot more than his arm. He was in a hurry, was laying lengthwise in relation to the car, and had about half his body under the car. The jack starts to creek a bit, he senses/hears this(over the regular shop noise) and moves quickly to sit up and reposition the jack. If he had ignored the creeking jack, i don't know if he'd be alive. As he was getting his body out from under the side of the car, the jack gave way and dropped the car on his arm. Luckily, most of his body was out of the way. Anyways, he got lucky and it only trapped his arm from the elbow down... still not a pretty sight.

Don't let this happen to you. Even 'industrial' jacks can fail, and kill you or injure you.

When I do use the OEM jack (cannot carry the jack stands along for that odd tire flat on the road, right?), I always use the Infiniti tire chucks to hold the opposite side tires. Put them on the rear wheels and make sure that the foot brake is on as hard as possible (still leaves the front wheels free, of course).

Pray tell, what are these? I don't think I have these in any Q45 I own. Maybe I need to look in the jack well.

What about the Infiniti nunchucks?

So its OK to use the OEM jack to prop up an entire end (like the whole front end???)

There are two bright yellow/orange folding gizmos that are intended to prevent the wheel and car from rolling. Of course, they will not hold on a steep slope, but for most tire-changing applications when out on the road and far from a jack stand, they are kinda essential.

They were included in both my Q's. Came stored along with the "minimalist tool kit" in a small compartment behind the left rear tire area (under the mat ... not where the jack is stored.)

Nope! Just one wheel only, when used on reasonably level ground, with the chucks on opposite side wheel properly in place.

Just a thought.....jack-up the car one tire at a time, put a 8"X8"X12" block of wood under the tire and then do the other side. BEFORE YOU START!!!!!!!!!!!!!SET THE PARKING BRAKE AND CHUCK THE BACK TIRES. It may be tight, but you will be able to get done.:thinker
