actually that specific engine looks like it is from the JDM nissan leopard J Ferie

(Y32 chassis code chalked in plenum)

ridiculously awesome, nonetheless

dayam....that's pretty impressive...but why do that when a properly tuned SR20DET can run circles around the 4.1 L motor. Plus for handling, you'd want the lighter motor for better balance. I guess it's kinda like when people stuffed the Ford 5.0 mustang engine into a Miata....that thing flew...but chassis dynamics was ruined.

The 4.1 and the 4.5 i would gather has a crazy plenum setup doesn't it? It looks like its FWD.

It does look transverse, but It looks like the valve covers are perpendicular to the plenum.

I have always thought the VH41 to be a bit narrower than the VH45. But I have not seen any measurements, so can't be sure. If that is the case, then it would be the one to transplant into the smaller Nissan rwds.

I doubt it as it has the same bore, same bore spacing, and same camshaft arrangement.

The VH41 is not noticeably smaller than the VH45. It is 1.5" thinner... but that doesn't make much of a difference.

We have installed a VH45DE into our 92 S13 (240SX actually). We have it mated to a VG30DETT gearbox. Lotsa time. Lotsa fabrication. LOTS OF FUN. Not street legal yet... but it drives like a psychotic Japanese musclecar. That was our goal though.

The wiring is by far the worst part. It was a MAJOR pain to get the base timing and fuel maps.

You can't put this in any car without a large turbo or a pair of mids. It's super torquey, but needs that topend that can ony be achieved with forced induction.

GOD I love Nissan!

Did you have problems clearing the steering linkage? Looks like a great job so far! I would imagine the wiring sucked pretty hard.

No, I'm in Texas. Those were test fit pictures from a RHD Silvia shell from Austrailia. The car is from the shop we're working in conjunction with.

No problems clearing the steering linkage. The RHD was a much bigger problem, requiring a custom starter motor.

The turbos and exhaust piping are the biggest hassle right now... now that she runs and is timed correctly. The Silvia bay is huge... but youd be surprised how fast the room disappears.

Wow, I would have expected problems clearing the steering linkage no matter what, that's really cool! I can imagine turbos and exhaust piping would be a hassle, you COULD do a remote mount turbo but those kinda suck...

Nightmare is an UNDERSTATEMENT!!!!

We seriously thought about venting behind the strut towers... but it's a convertible...

We may have to rework the floorpans. Thats the reason for the shell car.

HEHEHEHEHE.....

We have a 70 Datsun 240Z that's next after we're done with the S13. We already have the AWD gearbox and the Z shell. It's not quite as easy as it sounds. We may keep the Z N/A... but the S13 is going tubo for sure.

THE AWD Z WILL BE DONE SOMETIME. We LOVE the VH! There are just too many projects now...

Bryan. We'll come to Dallas and Houston for shows when it's done. We'll probably unveil at next year's Heatwave.

You may have seen our dark blue turbo Maxima at some Dallas shows. 511 ft lbs of torque no bottle. Not stellar... but good on stock internals.

You can go to http://www.acxunlimited.com for now. It's not too updated, but it has our current projects listed... if not completely up to date.

Holy Jiminy Cricket!

Here I am scheming how to transplant a VH41 into my 240SX when it's already been done! Not only that but someone's also swapped a VH45DE mated with a Z32 manual?! Man, I've been outta the loop!

Just curious, how'd you fit the transmission to the 45 engine? Beautiful work there, keep it up!

That's nice you can get a V8 into a 240, but one of the best features of the 240 was the 50/50 weight distribution. What does the weight distribution change to when you add the V8 to it?

dammit dammit dammit!(does angry interpretive dance around the office) I knew that engine would fit!(bangs head against the desk) I could have been the first, oh the missed opportunity arrrrrggghh! (co-workers cowering behind desks) Good, I'm glad he did it, he just threw down the gauntlet, I'll beat him to boost!!! That is a promise from your favorite nut-job, I will beat him to boost, maybe not a manual as I am still working on that but I will see positive intake pressure before this guy! If he updates his progress please post a link.

I'd bet there's very little difference.

The 240 never had perfect weight distribution, and remember the VH45DE and the VH41DE are all-aluminum. The 240 engines are iron blocks. Smaller, of course, but likely damn near as heavy.

Any experts care to elaborate?

This self-acknowledged expert says "screw balance, it's a drag motor"! I wouldn't try to take it on the circuit or drift it.
