i dont think im the first get get a manual transmission in a Q45, but i know theirs a place out their that makes a adapter plate to mate the Z32 transmission to the VH. im using an BR25det transmission/and engine. the engine came from a 4 door R33 skyline.
I should rephrase my previous statement as it was typed hastily. I'm aware that a manual can be mated to the VH45 with an adapter plate but yours is the first Q45 that I’ve seen with such a setup. A damn clean piece of artwork you pulled off there. My only complaint is that you don't take enough pics!!! (greedy for more)
I live not too far from Slim (450zxtt) who did this way back. You may have seen this already, but check out his 300zx with twin turboed VH45DE.
http://www.freewebs.com/axepower/ I believe he had his adapter plate made from scratch…I haven’t talk to him in a while but his car is amazing too and one mean sounding SOB as you can hear in the video.
From looking at your pics, it seems to me that the RB25’s smaller size gives you a few more inches of play to massage in such a setup which is another advantage of using it. I know you welded and plated the sh*t out of this car. Did you stick with the original driveshaft or did you have to modify that too? Would love to see pics of the clutch setup, pedal clearance and how comfortable it is to shift. I’ve been in a few older VWs and the pedal proximity drove me nuts enough to where I’d refuse a manual in those cars.
If my JDM transmission fails on me anytime soon (installed a year ago) I might think of hooking up with Slim and morphing the old girl into a 5 or 6 speed if possible. Damn... maybe I should just beat it to death and not change the fluids…
