First I buy a cheap laptop like this:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...WA:IT

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...WA:IT

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...WA:IT

Then get this software, I thought I saw this software free to download somewhere...

As mentioned in this thread:zerothread?id=151188

Then make a cable, Which I saw somewhere in the mechanics section.I think Heath made one.

What am I missing? Is there a better way to do this? What will/won't this do for me?Pointers?

Thanks !!!!!!!

EDIT: I was hoping to get all the info in one place so we can all have one.

Sadly I never got mine to work... Robert and I are both stumped. His works fine... and mine worked OK on his car for a while... so I don't know. I'll mess with it again someday.

Honestly, It's not a bad deal if you take the cost of your time in to account when building one... not sure how easy or fast it is to get that one to the USA though.

One of our members has some Consult interface boards for sale. I think he assemble them himself. It doesnt list the VH as a compatible engine, though he does list the same models as the PLMS board, and ozzie said his works.

That's the same board I was selling for a while.

I've built 12-15 of them so far, and all work great except the one that Heath got. Maybe his car is cursed

Sounds like this would solve the cable problem (but I'm not a computer guy at all, that's why this thread.)Quote »Hi Pete, Found a USB supplier here in the states that has the correct chip in their adapter.......$17.79 USD!!!! Tried it out yesterday and it works flawlessly.

If you could, please let your US customers know about this. Here is the web site:[/quote]http://store.yahoo.com/cooldri....html

or..$24.99 USDhttp://www.usbgear.com/usa/item_288.html

About:nissaneculibrary allows the user to get realtime sensor data from their compatible Nissan car (90-96 300ZX, Silvia, 180SX, Skyline GTR, GTS, or Nissan with CONSULT plug). The user can also temporarily modify timing and fuel injection, and perform active tests on various systems, relays, and solenoids. It is useful for diagnosing problems with your vehicle.

Is this what would be necessary so far?

I4 and V6 are easy the lack of V8 software is still a problem.

In my wanderings about the internet I came across a guy with a '72 Datsun with a VH45 in it and used this software successfully.I also believe Robert uses this... someday Heath.

I was wondering which software was the better of the 2 above, since it actually has been used on a V8.

Since the whole thing should cost me ~ $50 overall...and a diagnostic is $85...and I really want my timing, temperature and IAC exact...and so can everybody else here for less than $50...

Yep, I use Nissan OBD Datascan (search for it) and Calumsult. Both work great. OBD Datascan knows about V8s.

Nope, it looks the same.

But you can eliminate gauges, and replace them with others(eg, lose the fuel temp gauge, and replace with the other O2 sensor) or whatever you want to display.

hi guys, thought some of you might like to try out my software, ECU Talk. Ive made both desktop and pocket pc versions.

all info on site: http://www.ecutalk.com

Both versions have fault codes (read/clear), logging, gauges (with full screen modes and automatic placement/resizing to maximise display). In the future i hope to have graphs, active tests and rom dumping, but realistically that probably wont be till the end of this year at earliest (due to uni and the consult lcd display im working on).

you seem to have it covered. you have a few alternatives, in common with most if that you need a consult interface, display device (computer or otherwise) and software.

consult interfaces, your typical ones are from blazt.biz or plmsdevelopments.com (or the other ones made available by people around the place).

display devices, you have either laptop, carpc, palm or pocket pc, or hardware device

for laptop/carpc you obviously have a lot of software to choose from, notably nissan datascan($25au), odb scantech ($$, forget how much), calumsult, conzult, ecu talk (all free). for the carpc, ecu talk has full screen gauges mode (rearranges itself to maximise room taken up by gauges regardless of screen aspect ratio).

for palm there is a program being made by someone on eccs.hybridka.com. for pocket pc theres ecuxtend ($600) or ecu talk ppc (free).

theres also software for macos somewhere (consultan?).

hardware devices, theres nissdatascan ($300au), and ive got one in progress (img here, hopefully around $170au mark).

that enough input? :P

Is this worth it for a 94 Q45?

I know nothing about OBD1, 2, or a partridge in a peartree,...but I do have a laptop.......

What is the programmability like?Is Consult strictly a datalogging setup, or can you really do like I read somewhere above and alter fuel and timing maps?

I read the bottom, "(For $35 more, you will receive board with all components soldered in place, ready to use! as pictured)"

And it's still under $100. I'm just wondering if there is anything else (other than a PC) needed

slipnfall is selling them cheaper than that and his board is the same design Robert used. But Jamie's doesnt come with a Consult plug. At least see if he's willing to add the plug and match the Ebay price. Support your NICO members...

You just need the adapter cable/board, a PC, and one of the programs Newkleer listed.

I'm buying this:http://store.yahoo.com/cooldrives/usb-t ... er.htmlUSB cableI think that's all you need, I haven't done it quite yet since I'm waiting to bid on a laptop really cheap. Unless somebody has one to throw away (or really, really cheap )

I'm surprised there aren't more people interested in this, you can get it to run perfect and run diagnostics..... CHEAP !

I might be able to acquire an old laptop for the purpose...I'd be interested to see what is finally needed.

Nothing until I find a cheap laptop, since this is all I'll use it for.As far as what is needed the others above said the interface (for $17.XX from http://store.yahoo.com/cooldri....html) a USB cable from Wal-Mart for $4.00 and change, and the elusive cheap laptop.I sucked ConZult and ECUtalk V10 onto a disc, and will try them both, since I think I can switch between them. For ECUtalk V10 you must download NET FX.exe to get it to work.

I suppose I'll just buy one (laptop) that needs a screen or something and fix it just to keep my cost under $50. (since I'm so damn cheap)
