Its not so much that the ECU uses the distributor as a crank angle sensor, but more the fact that when base timinng isn't set correctly, you could be retarding or advancing on an already advanced or retarded setting which can become very confusing. Some people have tried to advance a couple degrees to find out that they are running 30*+BTDC... Which is why it is crucial to set timing properly.

In any event, that is how I understand my FSM, and I do agree that the right tools are the only way to do a job the right way.

Absolutely, I agree. Like I posted before, I found that mine was actually at 25*BTDC on 10psi! DANG>...

Just glad to hear you made it. Alot of people would probably be happy with that for a little while, until it broke one of the ringlands. You made it, so you're cool. BTW, Kawaii, still hoping you can get me some DP pics.

I don't even like how the FSM says to adjust timing. By lowering RPM below 750 or something and unplugging, ect ect.. I say just borrow a Techtom from someone or take it to Nissan and hook it up to the consult. Then it doesn't matter what RPM you are at and you are positive it is right.

at fifteen degrees base timing and at 9 pounds of boost on ur turbo, no. but as for ur a/f's, gonna have to look into those pronto. even though ur timing is right, this doesnt mean that ur a/f's right. (but u know this.) hope this helps

YES! you need to worry about your timing, to an extent it is more important than A/Fs, but once you pass that point. A/Fs, A/Fs, A/Fs.

Incorrect timing will kill an engine much quicker than running lean at any power level...

Same thing, but he is TOTALLY correct. You need to worry very much about timing.
