havent really introduced myself on here. i am from canada EH' near wasaga beach just north of toronto. i live in an igloo and see moose on a daily basis
heres how i got into this project:
my brother got me into 240's with his racecar:
Image

then with the assistance of my brother and father i built mine when i was 13 ( winter of 2007-2008) :
Image

both together spring 2008
Image
Image
then won the championship in my rookie year (2008) (celebratory burnout)
Image

this spring i decided to pick up a project being able to get my license late in the summer. a perfect importunity popped up and i jumped on an 89 coupe that needed a motor and the paint was s***

I have been wanting to make a build thread pretty much since i got this car in march 2010, just never had the time. i have pictures of when i first got the car but unfortunately cannot find them.

first step was to get the damaged KA out of the car, everything went smooth and it was out in no time, i then stripped the engine bay and got the new motor ready to go in. the ka i found was in mint shape but i still spent a bit of time painting the fuel rail. all the brackets in the engine bay were then painted black using automotive grade paint.
here is the motor before installation"
Image

as of right now i here is the mod list:
megan racing sway bars ( not installed)
skyline r32 GTR tie rods and ends (heavier than factory s13)
S14 KOUKI 5 bolt hubs and spindles
infiniti j30 brake calipers
stainless brake lines
infiniti q45 11" brake rotors
apexi dual N1 exhaust
energy suspension full master bushing kit
mystery jdm rear subframe. - think its skyline r33 but not 100% its 1/2 wider than factory and has a better differential mounting setup
solid subrame bushings
megan coilovers up front
ngk blue plug wires
k&n filter
pacesetter ceramic coated header

keep in mind that i am 16 years old and am not a money tree. i would rather spend LOTS of time than lots of money on this car. there is still lots of parts i am going to purchase. i havent even thought about interior yet.

my overall goal is to have the cleanest 240 around along with a decent daily driver in the summer.

here is the parts collection i have accumulated for the racecars:
Image
Image
Image
Image

and my car as it sits right now next to my brotheres peice of s*** sr20 project :woot: :
Image

i threw the interior together quickly but it is going to all be pulled out and redone with the best peices i can find:
Image

suspension parts awaiting the sandblaster, self etching sealant and black automotive paint/ new bushings:
Image

and a few others to finish the post. i plan to update this atleast weekly

welcome. but may i ask whats up with all the stock brakes, stock motors, stock suspension parts.....on "race cars"? just asking. either way, looks like you do good work. now build something faster without the goofy graphics.

because unlike drifting there is a rulebook you are supposed to follow and money/ reputation lost when your caught cheating. the cars are raced on anywhere from 1/4 to 1/3rd mile oval track nascar style. however its not as simple as stock parts, trick spring ratios and shock rod lengths etc. along with rear end ratio's camber, castor, air pressure, different pads left to right, ride height, weight, toe and bump-steer adjustments along with LOTS more take years to balance out and find the perfect setup we can do anything you can with coilovers, its just not as simple as turning a knob and spinning a few collars. as for brakes there is no point in upgrading because 1. not allowed in this series and 2. we have no need to, a set of pads last a few weeks and we dont lose breaks once they heat up. also the motors arent exactly stock. if it cant be measured then you cant get disqualified and mise well cheat. example: camshaft lift can be measured but duration cannot with the tools most tracks have. making this racing extremely competitive,
a stock 240 with a decent tire pressure setup and tires will run around 18.7 second mark. i am down to 16.7 at 2640lbs with driver . 625hp 2310lb cars worth 50k + run 14.2 second range.

as for the "graphics" those are paying sponsors that i couldnt race without. and if you are refering to the paint schemes they look goofy without the vinyls but once complete with vinyls i like it. if you dont its your opinion and i would like your input on improving it.

btw people always say why dont you move up a class and run faster cars, this is hillbilly redneck ovaltrack racing not drifting or roadcourse, you cannot drop in an sr20 and coils and move up a class. the next class up is v8 full tube clip cars that costs 3 times as much and only run about 1 second faster laps ( i run 16.7 and they run 15.7-8).

if you dont like the fact that i would rather have a really clean ka and money in the bank for other things instead of being 16 years old, spending all of my money on my haggard together sr20 fan-boy car and not having money for anything else. please keep that b.s. out of my thread.

the reason for all the infinity brakes, 5bolt, sub frame, skyline tie rods is because they are 100% FREE. i would never pay for these minuscule upgrades but i have them sitting there i mies well put them on well the car is tore apart.

this street car will be painted black then wetsanded/ buffed. and the ka will most likely be running 8lbs boost in the spring when the car is ready to go on the road. sometimes haggared together sr's are 100% necessary. sometimes 100% caged stock cars with "goofy" graphics are neccesary and sometimes 100% clean, unmolested reliable cars are necessary.

tried to take a panorama, that setting is kinda gay:

^^^ i agree with you on alot of what you have said, racing classes are what they are.... abide by what you need too

but just becuase some one buys coilovers doesnt mean he is a "fanboy"..
also a ka-t is just as common as a sr20det these days... everybody is a "fanboy" now for the " i dont wanna be a fanboy" click ... all the same bs

Good Stuff OP, there will always be haters. You obviously have a lot of knowledge, driving and car building skill. Also seems like you really love 240's and I'm very jealous of your garage and all your parts cars etc. Wish my family was more into cars and that I was building and racing at your age.

Jesus, I wish all 16 year olds that had a 240 came off as intelligent as you do. Hell, 50% of all 240 owners are pretty much "fanbois."

Really glad to see others getting out there and doing something DIFFERENT. Drifting and even autox now is the new "thing." So ghey unless you're actually doing it for the experience/passion, not just to look cool.....

thanks for the compliments everybody. I am now finished working 9 hour days full time for the summer so with school being done at 3:30 i should have alot more time to work on the car, my father is going to machine me some solid subframe conversion bushings to put in the mystery subframe and once thats done all the suspension will be installed and i can start the bodywork.

lol. atleast he got his point across with no pink. dont worry no pink happening on it.

so far i have been leaning towards gloss black, white, metallic grey or the new challenger purple with 5spoke mustang gt rims, i am not sure how the offset will be but i think the 5spoke mustang rims will look pretty good, i also have a set lined up pretty cheap.

these rims

finally got my rear subframe in and bolted up all the arms, started putting the front suspension back together, got an s14 vlsd diff in it with the bushings, i hope that compensates for some of the extra noise you get from solid subframe bushings.

got the car ready for the big year ender this weekend, qualifying friday, saturday and features sunday, 80 cars expected to showup in my class. i finished 8th last year.
Image
Image
i mixed up some purple for the brakes and sway bars, it looks decent with some blue metal flake in it.

Wait.... So wouldn't caring about racing being the "new" thing mean you're just doing it to be cool...? Now theres a mouthful. I had to read that 3 times to make sure it was correct. :rotflmao

the year ender wasn't the greatest, Friday it was alright in practice, just didn't have the right gearing, Saturday morning changed the gears and the car was good, i wasn't the fastest car on the track but was close, then in practice about 6 laps in this happened.
Image
at first it looked alright just a rear lower control arm, 2 bent rims, ruca, front strut and some sheet metal,

then i went to grab the shifter and it was sitting ahead about 2 inches further than it should be, turns out the transmission mount blew apart and the motor mounts are mangled. with the one piece drive shaft I couldn't go out because the splines on the drive shaft weren't in the transmission far enough. the whole front hoop is also bent.

so i ended up watching the big show from the stands Sunday, kinda sucks but it could have been worse, i haven't even had the chance to take pics of the damage because the car is still in the trailer.

update on the car: it is on the ground but still needs sway bars and axles. brakes need to be bled and the toe in the front and rear needs to be adjusted along with camber, paint is next and i still have no clue on a colour.
