There is no way in hell anyone in their right mind would consider attempting to start a motor that looks like that without tearing it completely down and inspecting it. The thing looked like it got sprayed with a shotgun.

Evo_bill, I consider you in the same boat as I was when I first started researching this swap. I read for a year and a half on here before I pulled the trigger on a clip. You need to sit down with a good read (i.e. the FSM) and buy a basic engine building book. You need to do a complete rebuild on this motor before you put it in or do it after it blows up because more likely than not, it will. I recommend doing it while you have it out of the car still. Buy some good micrometers (Starrett), mic the crank, measure the mains, measure the journals, measure the girdle, buy new bearings accordingly (King from Compulsive HP), new main bolts, etc. to get that thing to a point where you feel comfortable that it will last the length of time you want it to under the abuse you are planning on giving it. We're all here to help you out, but do your research and THEN ask questions.

Thanks for the help, but I'm also talking with my local peeps, and I have decided that I need to add some stuff to my parts lists I have. -Main barrings-barring rod's-piston rings-jun collar-full motor gasket set-metal head gasket-deck head maybe deck block

this should put the bottom end in good health. the piston cylinders look pretty good though. check it out I don't know about the head.... eeek

You HAVE to deck the block in that condition. There is no way a metal head gasket will seal on that. Trust me. It's only $40 and you'll be able to check yourself out in the reflection. BONUS! The head gasket looks like it was in tact so that's a good sign.

Rings are going to be difficult to find, so you might want to scrap that idea or just buy a set of forged pistons that come with rings and wrist pins. Get new ARP main and rod bolt sets too.

Might want to half-size those pics and reattach them because they're ginormous.

This maybe a stupid suggestion but why would it be so hard to disable or remove the gears that transfer power to the front and just put a block off plate on the AWD part of the trans. I know the Trans mount would have to be custom made but it might be cheaper than 1000 for a RB25 transmission.

I'm def. glad I found this thread thanks to Gawdzilla. I am staying away from my dream of an RB26 in my 240 for a long *** time, I'm just going to go with a 25 with the TT mani. Def will be checking up on your progress Bill, when installing do a write up with pictures, it will be a good read.

Best of luck to you Bill.

By the way Bill, next time you post pictures can you edit the sizes down? Very inconvient to have to scroll to read thread.

That graph shows PSI. PSI is not the only determing factor in making power . A turbo is a pump, so you would want to know what CFM of air it can push out to determine power levels...

yup good luck on the rebuild. When we got my rb26 like 3 years ago it was in bad condition. But he paid 1k for it. Im glad we tore it apart. It was showing copper on one bearing. It got rebuilt with oem parts + je pistons. Ran good but i just knew this car was better off as a project car. So after 10 minutes of run time engine was pulled and built for real power. Im done with the lower end now i just need to build the head. Im just saying take your time and do it right not twice.

Dan, I know that single turbos are faster in general, but I'm not looking to have the fastset car. Whether or not I will actually go with TT I don't know, but it's just being able to either say you have twin turbo or you have a car that is suppose to be (Like the Supra) that makes you cool.

eh? I know that psi is not THE measure of potential power. There are benefits for going either way, but for the price, for most people, a single is the better route to go.

I am not downing twin setups in any way, I am actually going to be using twins on my 30/26

Hey Evo_bill congrats on the attempt, hope it works out for you. I've just been reading through this thread and though I wouldn't be much use mechanically if you need help with something feel free to give me a shout. It's great to see other NICO guys up here in NH! You're not too far away either, I live just outside Concord. Anyway best of luck.
